DAYTON DIGEST
🥨 Food Is Coming Back to Carillon Brewing
Dayton History announced on Oct. 30 that Cooper’s Kitchen will be the new dining partner at Carillon Brewing Co., inside Carillon Historical Park. The menu leans German inspired to match the brewery’s historic beers, with beef on weck sandwiches and footlong pretzel braids already named. It is a collaboration between team members from Archer’s Tavern in Kettering and Centerville and The Stone House Tavern in Waynesville. The kitchen is expected to open in time for the holiday season at 1000 Carillon Blvd.
🦃 Turkeys for Veterans, Drive Thru Style
The Dayton VA Medical Center is giving out free frozen turkeys to veterans in need on Thursday, Nov. 19 starting at 11 a.m. It runs as a drive thru, first come, first served, and turkeys go until supplies last. Drivers enter through the Gettysburg gate at 4100 W Third St. and follow the event signs. Bring a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, VA ID, or retiree ID, plus a DD-214.
🎓 A Guaranteed Seat at Sinclair, No GPA Required
Sinclair College will guarantee admission to 2027 seniors at eight Montgomery County districts through a new program called Sinclair Direct, with no minimum GPA and no test scores. The list covers Dayton Public Schools, Trotwood-Madison, West Carrollton, Northridge, Stebbins, Valley View, Jefferson Township, and Dixie High School in New Lebanon. Students also get enrollment help, financial aid guidance, and career exploration, and a Sinclair Direct Promise feature can cover what is left of tuition and fees. Families should file the FAFSA by March 1 for priority consideration.

She Wore Team USA to Austria. She Came Home With Three Medals.
Salayah McClendon came home to Dayton from Austria with two gold medals and a bronze. She is a student at Stivers School for the Arts, and she trains at Twin Dragons Mindful Martial Arts here in Dayton. All three medals came at the World Martial Arts Tournament, where she competed for Team USA.
She is not finished either, because she and her sister, K’ana, are already working toward the world tournament in Barcelona, Spain, in 2027. For now, Dayton gets to claim a Stivers student with three world medals and a pair of sisters with their sights set on Spain.

Meet Cleo
A tortoiseshell hoping to be part of a family again
Cleo knows what a home feels like. For four years she had a quiet one, and one person who adored her. When her owner passed away, she came to SICSA, and a shelter full of other animals was a lot to take in for a cat who had only ever known a calm house and a familiar lap.
Cleo is a 4 year old Domestic Long Hair Tortoiseshell, and she has been with SICSA for 5 months. She is staying in a foster home right now, as the only cat, and she has settled in beautifully there. She is not looking for anything complicated. She is hoping to belong to someone again.
What She’s Like
She is affectionate and a little bit of a diva, and SICSA says that fondly. Other animals and young children are not her comfort zone, and she will tell you so. But when she has your attention, she soaks up every second of it. She is the kind of cat who follows the sound of your voice into the next room.
A Day With Cleo
Her favorite game is a wand toy, and she throws herself into it, stalking and pouncing until she wins. When she has worn herself out, she curls up in a covered cat bed or a cubby hole and sleeps. The rest of the day she spends wherever you are, close by, checking in.
Who She’s Looking For
Cleo is hoping for a calm household with no other pets and no young kids, where she can be the one everybody fusses over. If that sounds like your home, she will give you a cat who greets you at the door, sits with you in the evenings, and is genuinely glad you came back. She has already lost one family. The next one gets a cat who knows exactly how much that matters.
This pet is available through SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center 8172 Washington Church Rd, Washington Township, OH 45458
