Good evening, Dayton!

Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Dayton's Water Street District along the Great Miami River was one of the most flood-prone commercial corridors in the city before the 1913 flood control project, and what's now a popular outdoor dining and events area was once regularly submerged every spring.

Tonight’s Top Stories Around Dayton:

  • Veterans left the 21st Stand Down with sleeping bags, fleeces, and fresh haircuts.

  • The Ghostbusters are coming to downtown Miamisburg on Saturday, October 10.

  • Nearly 600 students tried robotics and welding at Sinclair.

🩺 Nearly 200 Future Doctors, One Campus
Wright State University's Boonshoft School of Medicine hosted Ohio Medical Education Day, welcoming nearly 200 undergraduate students from across Ohio who hope to become physicians. Students sat in on sessions about applications, personal statements, MCAT prep, and paying for medical school, then met school representatives at a Meet the Deans Fair and toured Boonshoft. The keynote came from Denise Akuamoah, a second-year medical student and president of the class of 2029, who previously worked as an educator and hospital chaplain. The statewide event rotates between schools, and Wright State last hosted it in 2014.

On Friday, October 2, Veterans lined up at the Dayton VA Medical Center for the 21st annual Stand Down, where they could get a free haircut and a hot lunch served by Mission BBQ. The event is hosted by the Dayton VA Homeless Program and was open to all Veterans, including those who don't get their healthcare at Dayton VA. Inside Building 305 at 4100 W. Third Street, a resource fair brought together agencies from around the Dayton area with information on healthcare, housing, employment, and more.

Giveaways included backpacks with hats, gloves, and toiletries, plus military surplus bags holding a sleeping bag, fleece, and poncho, along with snacks and a first aid kit. Live entertainment filled the room, and the VA shared afterward that it was happy to serve every Veteran who came out.

Meet Munchie

SICSA's Laid-Back Front Office Supervisor

Munchie is a 9-year-old Domestic Shorthair Tabby with one of the sweetest, most laid back personalities you will ever meet. She came to SICSA after her owner was diagnosed with terminal cancer and could no longer keep her. She has now been at SICSA for 6 months, and the team has been taking wonderful care of her while she waits for a family of her own.

Munchie has made herself right at home in the meantime. You can usually find her in a front lobby office, where she has taken on the very important role of supervising SICSA's Animal Care Manager. When she is not on duty, she likes to flop over on her side and relax like she has nowhere else to be. And when the mood strikes? A laser pointer or a wand toy gets her up and playing for a short burst before she settles back in.

What Makes Munchie Special

Munchie has diabetes, but she takes her injections easily, which says a lot about how calm and easygoing she is. She is not looking for nonstop action. Her favorite things in life are simple: eating, sleeping, and supervising. Give her a cozy spot and a little company, and she is happy.

Who Would Make Munchie’s Dreams Come True

Munchie would do best with someone who wants a calm, gentle companion and is comfortable giving her injections. A quieter home would suit her well, especially one where someone works from home and could use a supervisor parked nearby. If you love the idea of a cat who is content just being close, Munchie might be your perfect match.

There is a cat out there who wants nothing more than a warm spot to flop over, a full food bowl, and a person to keep an eye on. That cat is Munchie.

Munchie is available through SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center 8172 Washington Church Rd, Washington Township, OH 45458
