Good morning, Dayton!
Hereβs Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Gem City Market, which opened in Dayton's predominantly Black West Dayton neighborhood in 2022, was the first full-service grocery store that community had access to in decades - it operates as a cooperative, meaning residents in the neighborhood can own a share of their own grocery store.
The inside track on local happenings:
Sinclair and Sierra Nevada just launched an academy that could change the career path of a lot of Dayton students.
AeroVironment is bringing 200 new jobs and a $15 million investment to Greene County.
More Dayton dogs are finding homes, and the numbers behind it are genuinely encouraging.

FOODIE FRIDAY
Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of mustβtry spots is here!
Dayton BBQ Co.
A wood-fired barbecue restaurant located inside Carillon Brewing at Carillon Historical Park, serving brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and scratch-made sides in a setting with more history than anywhere else you will eat barbecue. The smoked meats are done the right way and the location is unlike any other BBQ experience in Ohio.
π1000 Carillon Blvd, Daytonπ
Press Coffee Bar
A specialty coffee shop with serious beans, natural wine, and an intimate atmosphere that makes it a neighborhood anchor in South Park. The espresso drinks are precise and the natural wine list is a surprise worth exploring.
π257 Wayne Ave, Daytonπ
Warped Wing Brewing Company
One of Dayton's flagship craft breweries, with a tap list inspired by Ohio's rich aviation heritage and a kitchen that matches it course for course. The IPAs, cream ales, and seasonal releases all consistently earn their reputation. A downtown Dayton brewing institution worth every visit.

DAYTON DIGEST
π AeroVironment Is Planting Deep Roots in Greene County
Defense technology company AeroVironment is investing $15 million to expand operations in Beavercreek and Xenia, adding roughly 44,000 square feet of space for advanced biotech manufacturing tied to the Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton. The project is expected to create 200 new jobs and generate around $28 million per year in regional economic impact. The expansion was supported by a tax credit from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority and additional backing from JobsOhio. "Proximity to the customer matters," said AV CEO Wahid Nawabi, and Dayton is clearly where that customer is.
πΎ More Dogs Are Finding Homes Thanks to This Dayton Partnership
The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center has expanded its pilot program with Best Friends Animal Society, opening transfer incentive funds to any rescue partner that has moved a dog from ARC since March 1, 2026. The program sends $150 with each generally healthy dog transferred and $400 for dogs with medical needs, and it has already produced a 37% average monthly increase in rescue transfers compared to 2025. Partners include the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center, Adopt A Pit Rescue, and others. "This pilot has already shown the value of collaboration," said Commission President Carolyn Rice.
π¦ Dayton Seniors Can Now Apply for a Free Monthly Food Box
The Foodbank is accepting applications for its CSFP Senior Food Box program, which provides a free monthly box of shelf-stable groceries to income-eligible adults 60 and older in Montgomery and Greene counties. Each box typically includes items like cheese, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, juice, pasta, and canned meat. Applications can be submitted in person at 56 Armor Place, Dayton, OH 45417, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, or online at thefoodbankdayton.org. If you know a senior neighbor who could use a hand, this one is worth sharing.

Dayton Is Training the People Who Will Keep America Flying
There is a quiet crisis happening above our heads. More than 40% of America's aviation mechanics are over the age of 60, and when they retire, the industry has no clear plan to replace them. Somebody has to step up. On Tuesday, June 2, Dayton did. Sinclair Community College and Sierra Nevada Corporation announced a first-of-its-kind joint aviation technician academy, built to take Dayton students from the classroom directly into the cockpit hangars where some of the country's most critical military aircraft get modified and maintained. The curriculum was designed entirely by SNC, the company that brought aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul work back to Dayton for the first time since World War II and has since invested close to $100 million into its local campus. "The pipeline is already moving," said Sinclair Senior Vice President Jeff Miller. "The academy only accelerates it." This isn't just a job training program. It's Dayton saying out loud what it has always known: that the people who build and fix the future belong right here.
