DAYTON DIGEST
Planning an Air Show Weekend?
Holiday deals just dropped for the 2026 CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show, giving families and aviation fans an early chance to lock in tickets and package perks for next summer’s big event. The 2026 show is set for June 13–14 at Dayton International Airport and will feature the return of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels to the Miami Valley skyline. Organizers are encouraging folks to buy early, since premium seating and family packages typically sell out well before showtime.
A Tiny Hawthorn Hill with Big Dayton Roots
Wright State just became the permanent home of a massive, museum-quality replica of Hawthorn Hill, the historic Oakwood home of Orville Wright. Fairborn miniature enthusiast Helen Naughton commissioned master dollhouse builder Jimmy Landers to create the piece, then donated it to the university in honor of her family’s long connection to Wright State. The handcrafted model is packed with detail — more than 40,000 hand-laid bricks, nearly 50 custom windows and eight 3D-printed columns — and weighs nearly 300 pounds. Trustees say the replica will help inspire students and visitors by celebrating the Wright brothers’ legacy.
More Jobs Coming to Downtown Dayton
The Ohio Tax Credit Authority just approved a new incentive package to help secure a major expansion of CareSource’s downtown Dayton headquarters and other regional projects. The authority’s board approved credits for CareSource, a downtown health insurance company, and Riverain Technologies, which develops medical technologies that use AI. CareSource Management Services LLC expects to create 167 full-time-equivalent jobs and more than $12.5 million in new annual payroll by growing its back-office operations to support new markets, backed by a 1.711%, 10-year Job Creation Tax Credit on new Ohio payroll.

Free Holiday Rides, Santa Sightings and a Trolley Treat

The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority is turning the holidays into a free ride for the whole community, offering systemwide no-fare service on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day so riders can more easily get to family gatherings, work shifts and downtown fun without worrying about bus fare. On top of that, RTA’s festive “December bus” will be rolling through the end of the month with surprise Santa appearances on select routes, and the historic Christmas trolley will offer free rides in front of Wright Stop Plaza in downtown Dayton during a special evening event where families can visit Santa and Buddy the Elf. RTA leaders say the goal is simple: help people stay connected, ease transportation costs during an expensive season and add a little magic to everyday trips across the Miami Valley.

West Dayton Icon Gets a Street-Sized Thank You

Dayton neighbors came together over the weekend to honor the legacy of Raymond Hummons Sr., a longtime West Dayton leader known for decades of community work, mentorship and activism. Hummons, often described as a walking example of neighborhood pride and service, has spent years organizing in West Dayton, supporting youth and helping residents navigate everything from local resources to city systems. To recognize his impact while he is still here to see it, city leaders and community partners held a special ceremony that included an honorary street renaming in his name, turning a familiar block into a daily reminder of his service. The celebration was spearheaded by the Dayton Equity Center and McKinley United Methodist Church. For West Dayton families, it is not just a new sign on a pole — it is a public “thank you” to a neighbor who has spent his life lifting others up and showing what it means to love this community in action.
