Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Edwin Moses, one of the greatest track and field athletes in American history, grew up in Dayton and attended Fairview High School before going on to win Olympic gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles in 1976 and 1984 - and his 122-race winning streak in that event remains one of the most dominant runs in any sport.
The inside track on local happenings:
Two Spirit EMS crew members represented Dayton at a national ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Wright State University just won the BBB of Greater Dayton's top community honor.
The Mosaic Institute is opening the permanent home it has worked toward for over a decade.

Angelina came home from a three day family trip to find sewage rising out of her basement into her shower and toilet. Four to five inches of it.
She called Advantage Plumbing Heating & Air. Dustin and Ramsey showed up, diagnosed the problem, snaked the drain and the foundation line, and walked her through everything they were doing step by step. She now requests those two technicians by name every time she calls.
That's who you're dealing with.
Right now Advantage is offering $89 drain clearing with a one year guarantee. Every job includes a free camera inspection of your pipes so you know exactly what you're dealing with. If they find something, you get an honest estimate. No pressure, no obligation.
A slow drain won't fix itself. The longer you wait, the worse it gets.

DAYTON DIGEST
🚑 Dayton's Own Made It to the National Stage
Two members of the Spirit EMS team were recognized at the American Ambulance Association's Stars of Life Celebration in Washington, D.C. this week. CDST Director Sarah Stump and Captain Paramedic Will Gardam were honored alongside 147 EMS professionals from 34 states during National EMS Week, which runs through May 23. Spirit EMS President and CEO Brian K. Hathaway said both represent the teamwork and compassion that define the field. It's a reminder that the people keeping our community safe are being noticed far beyond the Miami Valley.
🏆 Wright State Earned Dayton's Top Community Honor
Wright State University has been named the recipient of the Better Business Bureau of Greater Dayton's 16th annual Community Honor Award. The university was recognized for its work connecting students to regional employers, supporting local nonprofits, and anchoring the community it was built to serve. Since its founding, Wright State has awarded over 140,000 degrees, with nearly 110,000 alumni still living and working in the Miami Valley. BBB interim president and CEO Christy Mauch called the university a driving force for innovation, collaboration, and economic growth in the region.
✂️ This Kettering Salon Has Been Quietly Changing Lives for 15 Years
Tangles Hair Salon in Kettering just received the city's Group Volunteer Award, the first of its kind, and the story behind it is worth knowing. Co-owners Melanie Yozwiak, Mary Scott, and Denise Burke have spent 15 years raising money for local and national causes, from Alzheimer's awareness to animal shelters. Over just the last six years, they've donated more than $30,000 to the Greenmont-Oak Park Food Pantry through holiday raffle basket fundraisers, and even got their local Meijer to double-match their contributions. Their response when asked why they do it? "Why wouldn't we?"

After 11 Years, Dayton's Mosaic Institute Finally Has a Home

For more than 11 years, the Mosaic Institute of Greater Dayton has used art to build connection across the city without ever having a permanent place to call its own. That changes on May 30, when the organization celebrates the grand opening of its new home at 1353 Woodman Dr. from 1 to 5 p.m. The public is invited for studio tours, community art activities, artist meet-and-greets, and a look at what's coming next. Founder and executive director Jes McMillan started the organization after years of leading collaborative public art projects throughout Ohio, including "The Seed of Life," the community mosaic created to honor the nine lives lost in the 2019 Oregon District tragedy. The building, purchased in 2025 and extensively renovated, is meant to be a creative hub where people of all ages and backgrounds can gather to make art, build relationships, and find belonging. McMillan put it simply: "This new space is more than a building. It is a home for creativity, healing, and community, and everyone is welcome here."
