TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Dayton!

Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... the Great Miami River was a critical trade artery for the Shawnee and Miami peoples for centuries before European settlement, and the confluence of the Great Miami and the Stillwater River near downtown Dayton was considered a significant gathering point long before the city existed.

The inside track on local happenings:

  • A $70 million development is officially underway in the Five Oaks neighborhood.

  • The Air Force Marathon's 30th anniversary brings a new start time and route.

  • SICSA's PET Gala takes over The Steam Plant tomorrow night and your furbaby gets VIP courtyard access.

The hottest day of the year is the worst time to find out your AC isn't ready for it.

Most breakdowns don't happen randomly. A worn capacitor, low refrigerant, a dirty coil - small problems that went undetected through winter and finally gave out under the pressure of a July heat wave. A failed compressor costs $1,500 to $2,500 to replace. An emergency call runs double the normal rate.

A $99 spring tune-up from Advantage Plumbing Heating & Air catches those problems now, before they become a midsummer emergency.

When Elliot's AC broke right after he bought his house, Advantage came out, found the issue, fixed it, and didn't charge him for the visit. That's who these people are.

4.8 stars. 918 Dayton reviews. They show up, they're honest, and they fix it right the first time.

Book your $99 AC tune-up before April 30th.

DAYTON DIGEST

Dayton's Got a Gala - and It's for the Animals

SICSA has been quietly doing some of the most important work in this city for a long time - taking in animals that need a second chance and connecting them with families ready to give them one. Tomorrow night, April 24th at 7 p.m., they're throwing a night worthy of that mission: The PET Gala - Surviving and Thriving, held at one of Dayton's coolest venues, The Steam Plant at 617 E. 3rd St.

This one has range. Cocktails from Tender Mercy, whimsical pet portraits, a silent auction, a live DJ, and - because SICSA wouldn't have it any other way - a VIP Courtyard where you can actually bring your dog. It's a real night out, not a stuffy fundraiser, and the cause behind it is worth showing up for.

It's also personal for us. We recently made the decision to dedicate one Pet of the Week feature to a SICSA animal - putting a shelter pet in front of thousands of Dayton readers who might just be ready to open their home. The Gala is that same spirit at a bigger scale. We're glad to play even a small part in helping them get there.

Tickets are on Eventbrite. If you've been looking for a night out that actually means something, this is the one.
