🚀 Ohio Wants the New Space Academy Right Here
Ohio leaders planned to unveil a proposal Monday, September 21 to bring the new U.S. Space Academy to a site joining Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University. U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno told the Dayton Daily News the pitch includes a $300 million hall the size of four football fields and a road lined with statues of Ohio's astronauts and aviators connecting the base to campus. A federal request for information calls for about 300 students in a temporary location by 2028 and room for 1,200 undergraduates by fall 2031. Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and Nevada are among the other states making a bid.
🏃 A Marathon Run for Those Who Serve
More than 9,000 runners took on the Air Force Marathon on Saturday, September 19, and plenty of them dedicated their miles to the men and women who serve. Around mile 21, the course passed a line honoring fallen service members, and the route carried some runners right through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Kaylor Rice, running her fourth marathon, was the first woman across the finish line and set a personal record under 2 hours and 57 minutes. Rice said she'd told herself to keep coming back until she won one, and this was the year.
✈️ A Free Saturday Workout Under the Wings
The National Museum of the United States Air Force is hosting free, monthly Fitness Under the Wings classes through December, from 8 to 9AM with doors opening at 7:30AM. Coming up are Trap and Tone on Saturday, October 10, Fit Body Boot Camp on Saturday, November 21, and Fascia and Longevity on Saturday, December 5. About 150 people attend each month, and yoga sessions led by Amy Fecher of Indigo Yoga have drawn as many as 400. Classes are open to all fitness levels, but pre-registration is required through the museum's website.
They Filled a Whole RTA Bus With Backpacks and Snacks
Greater Dayton RTA employees filled an entire RTA paratransit bus with backpacks, school supplies, personal hygiene items, and after-school snacks for the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton. Their "Stuff the Bus" drive ran from July 20 to August 23, with RTA and ATU Local 1385 combining their donations. On August 27, RTA and union leadership helped hand out backpacks pre-filled with school supplies at the club's annual Back-to-School Community Block Party.

Wright State opened Horizon League play with a 1-0 win over Robert Morris on Saturday, September 19 at Alumni Field. Chloe Dunford scored her third goal of the season in the 54th minute, set up by Caitlin Burger and Olivia Stroud. Robert Morris fired 10 shots after halftime, but goalkeeper Leigha Lauer made five of her six saves in the second half to keep the shutout. The Raiders are now 3-5-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Next game: Wright State will face IU Indy on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m., its first Horizon League road match of 2026.

Dayton won its first road game of the season 17-14 at Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Ky., on Saturday, September 19, holding on when the Colonels missed a game-tying field goal in the final seconds. Luke Hansen ran for 110 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown, the first Flyer to top 100 rushing yards this season. Bryce Schondelmyer hit Michael Mussari for a touchdown just before halftime, and Mussari finished with seven catches for 87 yards. The Flyers are 3-0, and Gavin Lochow is four catches away from Dayton's career receptions record.
Next game: Dayton will face Drake on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m., on the road to open Pioneer Football League play.
