Good evening, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Dayton was founded in 1796 by a group of settlers from Cincinnati, and it was named after Jonathan Dayton - a signer of the U.S. Constitution who never actually set foot in the city that carries his name.

🧸 Centerville’s Teddy Bear Picnic is back this spring
The Centerville-Washington Park District is hosting the event on Friday, April 10, from 4PM to 5:30 PM at Bill Yeck Park’s Smith House entrance area. This aims to give families a chance to bring children and their favorite stuffed animals for games, activities, and outdoor fun. It is designed to create a relaxed, welcoming space for younger kids and parents to connect. Families attending are requested to register for the event by the Centerville-Washington Park District, which can be done here or by calling 937-433-5155.
🩺 A full month focused on better health across Dayton

That moment on I-75 turned into something no one expected
It started with a call about a cat sitting dangerously along I-75 near State Route 35, putting both the animal and drivers at risk. A Dayton Police sergeant stepped in, briefly stopping traffic to safely rescue the injured kitten, later named Brie, and get her out of harm’s way. She was taken to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, where veterinarians treated her for injuries and monitored her recovery over several weeks. During that time, her condition steadily improved, and she began showing the calm personality that made her stand out to staff. Now, Brie has officially found her forever home, turning what could have been a tragic situation into a story many in Dayton followed and celebrated.

Say hello to Sugarplum 🐱, a five-year-old Domestic Shorthair currently staying at SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center in Washington Township. Her backstory is one for the books: she was picked up by Kettering PD for loitering, cleared of all charges, and has been patiently waiting for the right family to come along ever since. She did not let a little run-in with the law dim her sparkle one bit.
Sugarplum is equal parts feisty and sweet, and that combination is absolutely irresistible. Her ribbon wand toy is her whole world, and she will go absolutely wild for it if you give her the chance 🎀 . But once playtime is done, she settles right in for some quality snuggle time like the perfect little companion she is. She is a total pro with her litterbox, has been a good neighbor to the other cats at the shelter, and carries herself with the gentle confidence of a cat who just knows she is someone's person. She is just waiting to find out whose. If you have been thinking about adding a little sweetness to your home, Sugarplum is ready.
Find her at SICSA, @sicsapets on Facebook and @sicsa on Instagram. 🏡
