🏃 A Community Is Racing to Get Every Athlete to Nationals

More than 60 athletes from the Dayton Wolverines Track Club, ranging in age from 5 to 18, have qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, one of the country's premier youth track and field competitions. With the event less than three weeks away, many families are facing the high cost of travel, lodging, and competition expenses. The club has launched a fundraising campaign to help ensure every qualifying athlete can make the trip, regardless of financial circumstances. For these young competitors, months of training have already earned them a place on the national stage. Now the community is working to help them get there.

🚲 The Wright Brothers' Story Began Long Before They Took Flight

Hundreds of members of The Wheelmen, a national organization dedicated to preserving cycling history, gathered in Dayton to celebrate the city's deep connection to the bicycle. Before inventing powered flight, Wilbur and Orville Wright owned and operated a bicycle shop in Dayton, where they repaired, built, and sold bicycles while developing the mechanical skills that would later shape aviation. The annual gathering honors those early years through historic bicycle rides and community events that celebrate one of Dayton's most important legacies. It's a reminder that the road to the first airplane began on two wheels.

A 174-Year Tradition Gets a Patriotic Twist This Summer

Photo courtesy of the Montgomery County Fair

The 174th Montgomery County Fair returns July 14 through July 19 with a theme that celebrates America's 250th birthday: "County Fair Traditions for America's Big Birthday!" Alongside longtime favorites like livestock shows, agricultural exhibits, carnival rides, live entertainment, and classic fair food, visitors will also find new attractions including laser tag, bounce houses, the Tin Smith Show, and Fast Traxx Motocross, all included with admission. This year's fair will also support the future of the community through fundraising efforts for a new open-air livestock pavilion and educational rain garden, while providing two scholarships for Valley View High School students. Open daily from noon to 10 p.m. at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, the event blends nearly two centuries of local tradition with a celebration of the nation's milestone birthday. Whether you come for the animals, the rides, or the new attractions, this year's fair offers something for every generation.
