Anchored started as a home baking business and grew into a storefront near The Greene, and their signature is the Sammie, an ice cream sandwich built between two cookies. The Buckeye Sammie is the obvious Ohio order and the Brookie Sammie is the one you will think about later. PB After Dark and the Mint Iced Brownie round out the case. Go on a warm afternoon.

Tacos Barra Jalisco
A small downtown Miamisburg taqueria that opens for breakfast, which is the part most people miss. The Chilaquiles are the morning order and the Birria Tacos are the reason to come back at lunch. Carne Asada Fries and Chorizo Dip if you are feeding more than yourself. Breakfast burritos and breakfast quesadillas too.

India Chaat Cafe
This is one of the only places in the Dayton area serving Sri Lankan curries, and they run a full North and South Indian menu alongside. The Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani is the order for a first visit and the Masala Dosa is the one to bring someone new to. Choley Bhatura if you want the full weekend treatment. Carryout is quick if you are heading home.

🍎 2,000 Families, One Big Grocery Day
The Foodbank is handing out groceries today (Thursday, September 24) at the University of Dayton Arena and Welcome Stadium, with about 2,000 families expected. Families can expect fresh produce and chicken drumsticks, plus pet food from SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center and a mobile health clinic from Five Rivers Health Centers. Amber Wright of The Foodbank said the extra services are part of five years of work to address the root causes of hunger. The event comes after a July survey showed hunger rising for a third straight year.
🎓 UD Just Climbed More Than 20 Spots
The University of Dayton rose more than 20 places in US News & World Report's 2027 rankings, tying for No. 121 among national universities. It also ranked No. 42 for best value and tied for No. 61 in undergraduate teaching, with recognition for its business, computer science, and psychology programs and its support for veterans. UD's six-year graduation rate of 81% sits well above the 68% national average, and students just set a record four-year graduation rate of 72%.
🚁 Dinner From the Sky in Kettering
TJ Chumps in Kettering has teamed up with Dayton-area drone company Dexa to deliver qualifying orders from 4 to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Eligible addresses sit within about three miles of the restaurant, covering parts of Kettering, Oakwood, and Centerville. Co-owner Jim Dunn said the most exciting part is working with another local company to bring Dayton-built technology home. Orders go through the TJ Chumps website or app, and availability depends on your address, the order, and the weather.
Dayton's Oktoberfest Started With 10-Cent Beer
The first Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest, held Oct. 7 and 8, 1972, drew 7,000 people, and beer cost 10 cents. The museum's Associate Board created it as a fundraiser that would feel nothing like a gala, and it quickly grew to fill a whole weekend and all of the museum grounds. Today it's southwest Ohio's longest-running Oktoberfest and the museum's largest annual fundraiser, drawing an average of 20,000 guests with nearly 1,000 volunteers behind it.
This year's festival starts tomorrow (Friday, September 25) with the Lederhosen Lunch and an evening Preview Party, then runs noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, September 26 and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 27 at 456 Belmonte Park North. Money raised helps support everything the museum does, and free family art activities fill the ACCO Brands Family Fest tent from noon to 5 p.m. each day.
