Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... the Dayton metro was one of the epicenters of the American manufacturing decline of the 1970s and 1980s, losing tens of thousands of industrial jobs as factories closed or relocated - but the region also quietly rebuilt around defense, healthcare, and education in ways that kept it from the complete collapse that hit other Midwest industrial cities harder.
The inside track on local happenings:
More than 6,000 new seats coming to Day Air Ballpark
Hot meals and daily check-ins reach 160 Miami Valley seniors
Hauntfest turns 40, plus local eats and Halloween plans

FOODIE FRIDAY
Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of must‑try spots is here!
Fête
Every bowl here is named after a pop song, and the food is good enough that the gimmick stops mattering by the second bite. Thank U, Next piles marinated chickpeas and olives under tahini and tzatziki, Crazy In Love goes Thai with noodles in a spicy peanut-ginger sauce, and Bad Romance is a kale Caesar with crispy quinoa. Want a plate instead? The Enchiladas Verdes arrive in salsa verde under white cheddar, and the Spring Rolls wrap roasted tofu in rice paper with more of that peanut-ginger.
📍The Silos Food Hall & Bar, 810 E 1st St, Dayton📍
Dairy Dreem Kettering
The long cheese coney is the headliner and the Dreem Burger is right behind it, but the real reason to park here is the back half of the menu. Thirteen parfaits, including a Buckeye and a Dubai, and an Arctic Swirl list that runs from Biscoff to Banana Pudding. Get tater kegs or funnel fries while you decide. The fall board brings a pumpkin roll sundae and an apple dumpling sundae, and both go fast.
📍2056 E Dorothy Lane, Kettering📍
Felicity: Natural Wine & Coffee Shop
Natural wine is the whole point here, poured by the glass in a room that used to be a tattoo shop. The Kombucha Smash is the move if you want something bright and low proof instead, and they pour Boston Stoker coffee and Rishi Tea for anyone skipping alcohol. Food stays snackable: greens, baked goods and meat and cheese boards built to go alongside whatever is open that night. Uptown Centerville did not have anything like it.
📍27 W Franklin St, Centerville📍

DAYTON DIGEST
🎉 Confetti at Carillon Park, and One Big Number
A confetti toss inside Carillon Park’s banquet center on Wednesday, October 21 marked 50,000 jobs added across the Dayton region since 2011. Jeff Hoagland, president and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition, announced the milestone to about 450 people at the Economic Development Forum. More than 400,000 people in the Dayton metro area now hold jobs, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s military and civilian workforce has doubled to roughly 38,000. Speakers said child care, housing and keeping college graduates in Ohio are the next hurdles.
🎓 Students Managing Millions, Writing Real Checks
University of Dayton students who run the Davis Center for Portfolio Management donated more than $16,000 last month to seven Dayton organizations. The center manages close to $5.6 million with The Dayton Foundation, and about 4% of assets goes toward scholarships, according to UD senior William Otterbein. One of the groups receiving money was the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Ohio, where Jennifer Loeb is CEO. Over the past three years the students have granted more than $50,000 to Dayton charities.
⚾ Every Seat at Day Air Ballpark Is Going
The Dayton Dragons are replacing more than 6,000 seats at Day Air Ballpark before the 2027 season. Premium sections get mesh backed seats, select upper level areas get tables with in seat food and drink service, and some lower level seats get side tables. The work follows new field lighting, LED displays, an upgraded playing surface and renovated player facilities at the ballpark, which opened in 2000. The new seats will be in place for the home opener against the Great Lakes Loons on Friday, April 2, 2027.
Hot Meals and Brighter Bike Rides Across Dayton

More Miami Valley seniors are getting a hot meal and a daily check-in thanks to LifeCare Alliance’s Meals-on-Wheels expansion into Darke, Greene, Miami, and Montgomery counties. After the previous provider closed, the nonprofit stepped in, took 150 people off the waiting list, and is now delivering hot meals to 160 people each day, helping older adults stay connected and continue living at home.
That same spirit of looking after neighbors brought volunteers to downtown Dayton on Wednesday, October 21, for Lights on Bikes. The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission’s Rideshare Program supplied free bicycle lights, and volunteers from Bike Miami Valley’s Bike Dayton chapter installed them to help riders stay visible after dark. Both groups welcome volunteers, offering Dayton residents a way to help keep neighbors fed, connected, and safer on the road.
