Good evening, Dayton!
Hereโs Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Huber Heights, incorporated in 1981, was developed almost entirely by one man - Charles H. Huber - who built over 15,000 homes in what was farmland northeast of Dayton starting in the 1950s, creating what was for a time the largest privately-developed community of brick homes in the United States.

DAYTON DIGEST
๐ Centerville's biggest tradition just had one of its biggest years
Thousands of people filled Uptown Centerville as the Americana Festival celebrated Independence Day with what organizers described as record crowds. Visitors packed the streets for the annual parade, the sprawling street fair, food vendors, live entertainment, an auto show, and family activities, while many longtime attendees claimed their parade spots weeks in advance by setting out lawn chairs. Organizers had even encouraged people to arrive about 30 minutes earlier than usual because of the expected turnout. More than fifty years after it began as a small community event, the Americana Festival has grown into one of Ohio's largest Fourth of July celebrations, bringing neighbors together year after year.
๐ผ A Dayton company is growing, and it's bringing 50 jobs with it
A longtime Dayton manufacturer is preparing for its next chapter. Techmetals plans to create 50 new jobs by 2031 after receiving a state tax credit to help expand its operations with a new coating center supporting missile and defense components. The project is expected to add nearly $3.5 million in annual payroll, strengthening Dayton's advanced manufacturing sector while creating more opportunities for skilled workers in the region. It's another example of local companies choosing to grow right here at home.
๐ Your fireworks may be finished, but they still need one last step
If you still have used fireworks sitting in the driveway or garage, don't throw them straight into the trash. Local safety officials recommend soaking spent fireworks in water until they're completely saturated before placing them in the garbage, since hidden embers can remain hot long after the show ends. Taking a few extra minutes can help prevent fires inside garbage trucks, dumpsters, and at waste collection facilities. It's a simple reminder that keeps the holiday ending on a safe note.

Building More Than Walls for Dayton's Next Generation

One of Dayton's most important youth organizations is about to grow in a big way. The Boys & Girls Club of Dayton is moving forward with an $18 million expansion that will allow it to serve more children with expanded after-school programs, mentoring opportunities, recreation, and academic support. The project is designed to create modern spaces where young people can learn, build relationships, and stay engaged in a safe environment after the school day ends. As demand for youth programs continues to grow across the community, the expansion will help the organization reach families who may not have had access before. It's an investment that extends far beyond a new building, giving more Dayton children a place where they can learn, belong, and thrive.

Meet Mochi
A happy young pup with a playful heart and plenty of love left to give.
At just 11 months old, Mochi has already spent much of her young life waiting for a family. You would never know it by the way she greets each day. She is cheerful, affectionate, and always ready to turn an ordinary moment into playtime.
Mochi was only 3 months old when she was found as a stray in Dayton. After the person who found her was unable to locate her owner, she came to SICSA, where she has now spent three months waiting for her forever home. Even after growing up in the shelter, Mochi has remained happy, social, and eager to please. She gets along well with other dogs and continues to prove that a loving spirit can shine through any circumstance.
What Makes Mochi Special
Mochi has the kind of personality that makes people smile. She is playful, friendly, and always excited to spend time with her people. One of her cutest habits is her signature "sploot," where she stretches out with all four legs behind her like a little frog after a good play session.
She loves stuffed toys and rope toys, and she is always ready to invite you into a game of tug or fetch. Better yet, she happily shares her favorite toys, making every playtime feel like something you get to enjoy together. For a puppy who has spent most of her life in a shelter, Mochi has never stopped believing that every day can be a good one.
Who Would Make Trinket's Dreams Come True
Mochi would thrive with a family that is excited to enjoy life alongside a young, energetic dog. She would love a home where she can keep learning, playing, and making memories with people who appreciate her joyful spirit. Another friendly dog could make a wonderful playmate, but more than anything, Mochi simply wants a family to call her own.
There is a dog out there who is ready to greet every morning with a wagging tail, a toy in her mouth, and the biggest smile you can imagine. That dog is Mochi.
This pet is available through SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center 8172 Washington Church Rd, Washington Township, OH 45458
