Good morning, Dayton!

Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... the Dayton Dragons drew more fans in their inaugural 2000 season than any other minor league baseball team in history to that point, selling out Day Air Ballpark before the first pitch was ever thrown.

Inside Today’s Edition…

  • Nearly 100 backpacks disappeared in 90 minutes behind a Dayton nonprofit.

  • The Foodbank hosts a free distribution Thursday, Oct. 15 at the fairgrounds.

  • Wright State bowling just landed its highest preseason ranking ever.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

If you have ever called a contractor and hit voicemail, you already know what happens next. You hang up and call someone else.

It turns out that is not just an occasional inconvenience - it is one of the most consistent ways local home service businesses lose revenue without ever knowing it. Studies show that small home service businesses miss up to 62% of their incoming calls. And 85% of those callers never try again.

That is the problem DYT Digital was built to solve. They build systems that answer calls, capture lead information, and notify the business owner automatically - so no opportunity slips through the cracks while a technician is out on a job.

In their first week working with a local Dayton contractor, their system handled 34 calls, triggered 109 automated actions, and maintained 100% positive caller sentiment across every single interaction.

They also help local businesses show up stronger on Google - so when a homeowner is searching for a contractor at 9pm, the right business is the one that comes up.

If you know someone running an HVAC, plumbing, roofing, or home service business in Dayton, this is worth sending their way.

Montgomery County unveiled a sign on October 8 at 4200 Forest Park Drive in Harrison Twp., marking the future home of a $40 million Job and Training Center. The building will cover 140,000 to 160,000 square feet on 40 acres the county closed on in August, land that once held a zoo, an amusement park and later Forest Park Plaza. The county approved a $3 million design contract with Levin Porter Architects, and state and county leaders, including commission president Carolyn Rice, described the project as having a “generational impact.” Until it opens, services run through the Business Solutions Center, the Employment Opportunity Center and Southview Center.

Novelty Gun Lighters Are Out in January
The Dayton City Commission passed the Novelty Gun Lighter Prohibition Act, which bans lighters designed to resemble guns and takes effect January 1, 2027. The measure appeared on the commission’s September 23 agenda, which said leaders advanced it in the interest of protecting children and residents, and the Dayton Police Department and its designees will handle enforcement. Mayor Shenise Turner-Sloss said the city will focus on education and a public awareness campaign before enforcement begins, and that the ordinance is modeled after Ohio’s Tamir Rice Act.
