Stoney's Munchie Bar
The biscuits and gravy here have reached local legend status, thick and peppery over deep-fried cheddar biscuits that somehow hold their own against the sausage gravy piled on top. This East 5th Street spot keeps odd hours on purpose, open for breakfast in the morning and then again from 7pm to 2am for the late-night crowd craving chicken and waffles or deep-fried Oreos. Ask for the jalapeno cornbread waffle if you want to see what creative actually tastes like.

Falb's Restaurant
Cafeteria-style service and prices that feel plucked from another decade have kept this Old North Dayton lunch counter running since 1920, when it started as a dry goods store before a hungry factory worker asked for a sandwich. The pork tenderloin and chicken and dumplings are the regulars order, and the famous cabbage rolls only show up on the third Friday of the month, September through March.

📚 A Downtown Bookstore Is Honoring Dolly Parton's Legacy With Free Books
Rabbit Hole Books, Downtown Dayton's used bookstore, is giving away free books to everyone through September 1st in honor of Dolly Parton's decades of work promoting children's literacy. Ohio has the highest enrollment in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of any state in the country, and Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine helped make sure every county has a program leader and every zip code can enroll. The Imagination Library mails a free book each month to kids ages zero to five, and many of those same books eventually land back on Rabbit Hole's shelves.
🛠️ Habitat For Humanity Is Bringing A Third ReStore To Miamisburg
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton purchased a 33,320-square-foot retail building at 8336 Springboro Pike in Miamisburg for $2.15 million, with plans to turn it into a new ReStore. The nonprofit already runs ReStores in Dayton and Springfield, selling discounted building materials, furniture, and appliances to the public, and this will be its third location. Executive Director Norm Miozzi says proceeds from every ReStore purchase help fund Habitat's homeownership and critical home repair programs across the region.
🚌 These Dayton Kids' Artwork Is Now Riding Around On RTA Buses
The Greater Dayton RTA announced the winners of its "Art on the Move" contest, where students from kindergarten through senior year submitted bus designs to be turned into wraps. Eight Montgomery County students won, ranging from 8-year-old Henry of Main Elementary to 17-year-old Liana of Springboro High School. The first winning design hit the road in early August, and RTA will keep rolling out more through spring 2027, highlighting each young artist on social media along the way.
A Free Grocery, Pet Food, and Health Clinic Drive-Thru Rolls Into WSU Today

The Foodbank, Inc. is teaming up with CareSource, SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center, and Wright State University for a free drive-thru mass food distribution today, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon in Lot 8 at the Nutter Center, and no pre-registration is required. Families can expect fresh produce, chicken, and other groceries, plus cat and dog food donated through SICSA, so it is worth clearing space in the trunk or back seat ahead of time. Five Rivers Health Centers will also run a mobile clinic on-site with free flu vaccines, blood pressure screenings, A1C tests, and help finding a primary care provider. Volunteers from Wright State's men's and women's basketball teams will be on hand helping pass out food alongside Foodbank staff. Organizers ask attendees to wait until 9 a.m. before lining up so the team can set up safely, and drivers should enter from Colonel Glenn Highway or North Fairfield Road/Raider Road and follow signs to Lot 8.
