Good evening, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park is actually four separate sites spread across the city - including the Wright Cycle Company building on West Third, Huffman Prairie, Hawthorn Hill in Oakwood, and the Dunbar House - making it one of the most geographically distributed National Park units in the country.

DAYTON DIGEST
🏙️ Dayton's Blood Center Is Moving to Tech Town
Versiti Blood Center is relocating to the Tech Town campus at 711 E. Monument Ave., after Montgomery County leaders approved $14 million in economic development revenue bonds to finance the project. The new facility will house blood drive operations, a testing lab, supply storage, and distribution to local hospitals, all under one roof. CityWide Development Corporation President Dan Kane said the move retains more than 200 jobs in the Dayton area and is expected to spark additional development interest across the Tech Town campus.
⚠️ Wright-Pat Runs Emergency Drills This Week
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will conduct emergency management training exercises from Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22, covering anti-terrorism Force Protection Condition transitions and active shooter response scenarios. Normal gate operations will continue, but base personnel and visitors should expect delays due to heightened security, including emergency vehicles, role-players, and enhanced defensive postures throughout the base. Officials are asking everyone not to call 911 if they observe exercise-related activity, as surrounding emergency agencies have already been notified in advance.
🥤 Twenty Years of Pop Tabs Pouring In
Ronald McDonald House of Dayton held its 20th annual Tab-A-Pull-Ooza, a fundraiser that turns aluminum pop tabs into funding for families with children in the hospital. Through a partnership with Franklin Metal, the tabs are weighed and recycled, generating roughly $10,000 to $12,000 a year that goes directly back to supporting families staying at the house. Director of Philanthropy Beth Groff said it is especially meaningful that Kettering, the city recognized as the birthplace of the pop tab, sits right next door, and that watching schools and community members rally around something so small is what makes the event special every year.

Meet Sam.
Some dogs come into your life like they were always meant to be there. Sam is one of those dogs. This sweet six-year-old Black Mouth Cur was surrendered to the humane society as a tiny puppy, part of a litter given up simply because their mama didn't have papers. But from the moment he came home with Beth, he has been nothing but pure, steady, unconditional love. Gentle with kids, kind to other animals, and loyal in that quiet way that makes you feel like the luckiest person in the room.
What makes Sam truly special is how he talks to you. He doesn't bark or fuss. He just walks over, presses his nose softly against you, and somehow leads you to exactly what he needs, like the world's sweetest little guide dog who just wants to make sure you two are always connected. And when it's time to play? This boy's whole heart lights up. He'll chase his ball again and again, bringing it back every single time with that tail going and those eyes saying one more, please, until he's completely worn out and ready to curl up beside you. Beth calls him the best ol' yeller dog ever.
Got a pet who brightens your days?
We love celebrating the furry (and feathered, and scaled!) friends that make our Dayton community so special.
