Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Dayton's Riverdale neighborhood, along the Great Miami River's east bank, was one of the earliest areas to be developed for residential use after the 1913 flood control system was completed - the confidence that the levees would hold opened riverfront land to housing development that would have been unthinkable before the flood, and the modest bungalows built there in the 1920s still line those streets today.

The hottest day of the year is the worst time to find out your AC isn't ready for it.
Most breakdowns don't happen randomly. A worn capacitor, low refrigerant, a dirty coil - small problems that went undetected through winter and finally gave out under the pressure of a July heat wave. A failed compressor costs $1,500 to $2,500 to replace. An emergency call runs double the normal rate.
A $99 spring tune-up from Advantage Plumbing Heating & Air catches those problems now, before they become a midsummer emergency.
When Elliot's AC broke right after he bought his house, Advantage came out, found the issue, fixed it, and didn't charge him for the visit. That's who these people are.
4.8 stars. 918 Dayton reviews. They show up, they're honest, and they fix it right the first time.
Book your $99 AC tune-up before April 30th.

DAYTON DIGEST

A Starbucks Crew, Security, and Rescue 1 Team Up for the Year’s Most Wholesome Save

On Saturday, when a dozen fuzzy adventurers took a wrong turn into a sewer drain, these unlikely heroes teamed up to fish them out. Staff from the Performance Place Starbucks, a security guard, and crews from Rescue 1 Dayton teamed up to save approximately a dozen ducklings that had fallen into a sewer drain. Rescuer Christopher Joseph was among those on the scene pulling each duckling to safety one by one. After the rescue, the group guided the duck family to the bank of the nearby Great Miami River for release.
Just a typical day in the Gem City: keeping our coffee hot and our smallest neighbors safe.

Your Weekly Dose of Home Advice
Before you put the furniture out, give your deck a real inspection. Walk every board and press down - soft spots indicate rot underneath. Check the ledger board where the deck meets the house, as that junction is where water damage typically starts. Look at every post base for signs of deterioration, and check that railings are solid with no wobble. A small repair now is far cheaper than a full deck replacement in two years.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
The Dayton Flyers baseball team had a week to remember, and the Atlantic 10 took notice. Junior outfielder Michael Smith Jr. was named A-10 Co-Player of the Week after hitting .438 across games against Akron and La Salle, going 7-for-16 with three home runs, including two grand slams in Friday's 12-9 win over La Salle. He posted 14 RBIs on the week, second-most in program history, including eight in a single game. Sophomore third baseman Jason Bello earned his second A-10 Rookie of the Week, blasting four home runs, including two in the FlyBoys' 21-14 win, giving him a team-leading 17 on the season.
The Wright State Raiders closed out a dominant road sweep of Oakland on Sunday, winning 16-2 in seven innings via the run rule. Senior outfielder Cy Turner was the story, launching two home runs, driving in seven runs, and totaling four extra-base hits on the afternoon. Pitcher Chet Lax improved to 8-0, the Horizon League lead, pitching six innings and allowing just two runs. The Raiders sit at 22-22 overall and 15-3 in the Horizon League, among the hottest teams in conference play.
Next game: Wright State will face Northern Kentucky on the road on May 8 at 3 PM.
