🐾 $30,000, Two Litters, One Creek
Beavercreek City Schools has launched One Creek: 4 Paws, a year-long service-learning project for 4 Paws for Ability in Xenia. The district's goal is $30,000, enough to support two future litters of service dogs at $15,000 per litter. All school year, students and staff will pitch in through fundraising, supply collections, volunteering, and advocacy. Official One Creek: 4 Paws gear is on sale through Trophy Sports Center, and direct donations go through the project's funding page.
🎃 4,000 Free Pumpkins Are Waiting at Stubbs Park
The 2026 Centerville Fall Fest fills Stubbs Park this Saturday, October 3, from noon to 8 p.m. The Heart of Centerville Pumpkin Patch is back with 4,000 free pumpkins while supplies last, and you can set yours aside while you keep exploring. Kids get an expanded Kids Zone, a new carnival games area, a bigger corn pit, a petting zoo, and touch-a-tractor. A Fall Fest Concert starts at 4 p.m. at the amphitheater.
🧊 Got an Old Fridge? Moraine Will Take It for Free
Montgomery County residents can drop off old refrigerators, air conditioners, water heaters, and stoves at no cost at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer & Recycling Facility, 1001 Encrete Lane in Moraine. Hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2, then 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, and you'll need proof of residency. Licensed technicians safely remove refrigerants like freon, and the metal gets recycled instead of landfilled. Microwaves, small countertop appliances, and outdoor grills are accepted for a fee, and questions go to 937-225-4999.
From Dayton's Low Vision Clinic to an Iowa Fairway

Three Veterans from the Dayton VA Low Vision Clinic traveled to Riverside, Iowa to join hundreds of fellow Veterans at the annual National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic. The week-long program uses golf as rehabilitation, with instructors teaching each Veteran adaptive golf built around their disability. Golf was only the start, since the clinic also gave participants a chance to try disc golf, chair yoga, and kayaking.
Just as important was the company, with a full week for Veterans to connect with one another on and off the course. The Dayton VA Medical Center says the goal is better physical and mental wellbeing, and this year three of the Veterans chasing it came from right here in Dayton.

The Lab Behind 400,000 Customers' Tap Water Is Growing
The Dayton Department of Water broke ground on Thursday, September 24 on an expanded Water Quality Laboratory at the Miami Water Treatment Plant. The $11.7 million project is backed by a $4 million Community Project Funds grant and a $7.6 million zero-interest loan from the Ohio EPA Emerging Contaminant Program. The expanded lab will strengthen water quality testing and regulatory compliance for about 400,000 customers in Dayton and Montgomery County.

Dayton swept Davidson 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-12) at the Frericks Center, rallying from a 23-20 deficit to take the opening set. Senior Kamryn Hunt led the Flyers with 13 kills, while fifth-year Kaleigh Meritt added 6 kills, 2 aces, and 9 digs. Freshman Ava Liening chipped in 5 kills and a team-high 6 block assists, and Rylee Sloss (15 assists) and Natalie Harrington (14 assists) kept the offense moving. The win moved Dayton to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play.
Next game: Dayton will face Fordham on Friday, Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. in the Bronx, New York.
Wright State men's golf is backing the Gala of Hope Foundation's Long Game Golf Marathon, a seven-day, 100-hole fundraising challenge for local veterans living with cancer. The marathon runs Thursday, October 22 through Wednesday, October 28, and registration is free for any player or coach with a $250 minimum fundraising commitment. Anyone who raises $2,500 or more earns an entry for a trip for two to the 2027 Masters, and the money covers immediate needs like food, transportation, and housing. Head coach Conner Lash called it a chance for his players to use golf to make an impact beyond their own program.
Next game: Wright State will face the field at the Moraine Intercollegiate on Monday, Oct. 12 in Kettering, the first day of a two-day event.
