Good morning, Dayton!
Hereβs Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... the Great Miami River Recreational Trail runs over 100 miles from Dayton south to the Hamilton area, passing through Miamisburg and connecting several Miami Valley communities - it's one of the longest paved recreational trails in Ohio and most people who live along it have never ridden its full length.
The inside track on local happenings:
Dayton students are getting thousands of dollars in new library books.
Kettering Health facilities earn top marks for patient care.
Wright-Patt begins a new chapter with fresh leadership.

FOODIE FRIDAY
Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of mustβtry spots is here!
Curry & Grill
Brings Indian food, tandoori, biryani and a daily lunch buffet with more than 25 items, to Dayton after relocating from its original Miamisburg spot. Regulars who were heartbroken when that location closed have followed it to the new spot on Lyons Rd, and it is easy to see why once you taste the curries. It is also a solid option if you need catering for a big event, with a banquet hall that seats up to 100.
π1501 Lyons Rd, Dayton, OHπ
Bear Creek Donuts
Has been a locally owned favorite in downtown Miamisburg since 2016, serving custom donuts and gourmet coffee out of a small storefront. Every Sunday they auction off a donut cake on Facebook, which has become its own little tradition. It is the kind of small bakery that makes a Saturday morning errand run worth it.
π80 S Main St, Miamisburgπ
Olive Mediterranean Grill
A downtown Dayton staple for authentic Greek and Mediterranean food in a family run, no frills setting. The gyros and falafel get the most love, but do not skip the hummus made fresh in house. It is the kind of place where they remember your order after a visit or two.

DAYTON DIGEST
π₯ Four Local Hospitals Just Earned Five Stars
Four Kettering Health hospitals received the highest possible five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The designation went to Kettering Health Dayton, Main Campus, Miamisburg, and Washington Township, placing them among the nation's top-performing hospitals. CMS evaluates hospitals on factors including patient experience, safety, mortality rates, and readmissions. The ratings give patients another benchmark when making healthcare decisions close to home.
βοΈ New Leaders Take the Helm at Wright-Patt
The 88th Air Base Wing officially welcomed new leadership during a change-of-command ceremony at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Col. Jason Okumura assumed command of the wing while Chief Master Sgt. Jason Vollmer took over as command chief. The wing provides installation support for Wright-Patt's workforce and oversees many of the services that keep one of the region's largest employers operating. Leadership transitions like this help shape the future direction of the base and its mission.
β€οΈ A New Spotlight for People Making Dayton Better
Dayton is asking residents to nominate people making a positive difference through its new Good Works in Dayton initiative. The program's first honoree is Jonathan Johnson, a city community engagement specialist who recently hosted his 10th annual Hooked on Fishing event for local children. City leaders say the recognition effort is designed to highlight residents whose work often happens outside the spotlight. Nominations are now open for future community champions.

Thirteen Dayton Public Schools received grants from the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries to purchase new books for students. The schools were among 220 recipients nationwide selected for the foundation's annual library grant program. Each school will receive $5,000, bringing $65,000 in new funding to Dayton classrooms and libraries. School leaders say the grants will help update collections and expand access to reading materials for students. The investment comes as schools continue looking for ways to strengthen literacy and encourage reading both inside and outside the classroom.
