Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Carillon Historical Park in Dayton is home to the original 1905 Wright Flyer III, which aviation historians consider more significant than the famous 1903 Kitty Hawk Flyer because it was the first airplane capable of sustained, fully controlled flight - and you can see it in a glass pavilion a few miles from where it was built.
The inside track on local happenings:
Two nights of live music across three bars start Friday, October 9.
Dayton rec centers opened fall classes for kids, many of them free.
A rainy summer has Miami Valley trees set for a colorful October.

FOODIE FRIDAY
Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of must‑try spots is here!
Panaderia El Ranchito
Walk in here and you are picking up a tray and tongs like you would at a village bakery in Mexico. The conchas are the reason to come, the bolillos are the reason to come back, and the tres leches cake handles any birthday you have coming up. Open every single day including Sunday, 8:30 to 6. Bring a friend, you will want the second tray.
📍2528 Valley Pike, Dayton📍
The Burger Bistro by Cece's Kitchen
Chef Centruela "Cece" Collier popped up off her own food truck before taking a permanent stall at The Silos, and she still makes her sauces and toppings in house. The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich is the headliner and the glazed salmon filet sandwich is the one people are surprised by. Get the fried mac and cheese balls for the table. There is a black bean burger too if you need it.
📍The Silos Food Hall, 810 E First St, Dayton📍
Bleu Wave Seafood & Pho
Cajun seafood boils on one side of the menu and a full pho and vermicelli lineup on the other, which is a combination you will not find twice around here. The seafood garlic bread is the surprise starter and the crab cakes are done right. New England clam chowder if you want something warm first. They took over the old Flyby BBQ space at Fairfield Commons.
📍2733 Fairfield Commons Blvd, Unit A, Beavercreek📍

🍁 The Leaves Have Been Saving Up All Summer
The fall colors you're about to see have been building in the leaves since summer, and they show once the green chlorophyll breaks down. A rainy summer and the Miami Valley's first drought-free start to October since 2022 set up a strong year, with peak color expected to begin in the third week of October. "We're really blessed in this part of Ohio with lots of sugar maples," said Wright State biology professor Don Cipollini, naming the tree that turns brightest. For a day trip late in the month, John Bryan, Hocking Hills, and Shawnee State Parks are all good picks.
✈️ 39 Minutes Over Huffman Prairie, Remembered
Wright State University marked Wright Brothers Day with an innovation showcase in its Student Union Atrium. Faculty, students, and local organizations shared research and demonstrations, with a focus on artificial intelligence. The event honored Wilbur and Orville Wright and Wilbur's 39-minute flight at Huffman Prairie in 1905. It tied the brothers' habit of experimenting to the technology and AI work happening at the university and around the community.

21 Acts, 3 Venues, an 8-Minute Walk

Tomorrow (Friday, October 9) and Saturday, October 10, Dayton Music Fest brings 21 acts to Yellow Cab Tavern, Blind Bob's, and Oregon Express for two nights of multi-genre showcases. The three venues sit about 0.4 miles apart, and night one opens at 8 p.m. with Human Cannonball at Yellow Cab. Night two opens at 7:30 p.m. with St. James at Oregon Express, and the lineup also includes Socks, Catsteel, Los Lokos, Collision Theory, Paid Leave, and Irby Ray.
Passes are sold at every door: $10 for one venue for a night, $15 for all venues for a night, or $25 for all venues both nights, with cash preferred and cards accepted. Yellow Cab is 16+ and Oregon Express is 18+ (younger fans can come with a guardian), Blind Bob's is 21+, and the full schedule is at daytonmusicfest.com.

Genius Unlocked - The Reveal
The Dayton Arcade.
Originally built in the 1900s as a grand shopping arcade, it fell into disrepair before a major public-private restoration brought it back as a hub for entrepreneurs and food vendors.
