Good evening, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton

DAYTON DIGEST
🌿 A Dayton Garden Is Quietly Changing How Local Families Eat
With God's Grace has officially kicked off planting season at their community garden, growing everything from onions and cucumbers to jalapenos and strawberries. Executive Director Nicole Adkins says the whole point is making sure families don't have to choose between eating fresh and eating affordably. Produce from the garden feeds directly into a free grocery store model, and any surplus gets routed to mobile food distribution locations. If you want to help keep things growing, the organization is actively looking for volunteers.
🌍 Dayton's Young People Just Got Real Power to Tackle Climate Problems
Dayton has been selected as one of 300 cities worldwide by Bloomberg Philanthropies to participate in the Youth Climate Action Fund, a program that runs innovation competitions and funds the strongest proposals with $50,000 each. Residents between the ages of 15 and 24 who live in Dayton are eligible to submit proposals, with the city's Office of Sustainability supporting projects from start to finish. Proposal submissions open July 31. Mayor Shenise Turner-Sloss called it an opportunity for young Daytonians to create meaningful change in their own community.

Dayton Is Throwing a Full July 3rd Celebration for America's 250th Birthday

Dayton is marking America's 250th anniversary with a full day of festivities on July 3rd, including a street fair at RiverScape MetroPark from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring food vendors, games, and a kid zone. At noon, the America 250 parade kicks off at St. Clair Street and East Second Street, winding through downtown before finishing at Patterson Boulevard and North Jefferson Street. Dayton's fireworks show, called "Lights in Flight," is scheduled for 10 p.m. at Kettering Field, though the field itself will be closed to the public due to ongoing construction for new outdoor sports facilities. The city says the fireworks will still be visible from surrounding areas, and attendees are encouraged to plan their parking and viewing spots in advance. This is shaping up to be one of the biggest Fourth of July weekends Dayton has hosted in years, so mark the calendar now.
