TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Dayton!

Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know…Did you know that Paul Laurence Dunbar and the Wright brothers teamed up to produce a neighborhood newspaper? Orville Wright built the printing press from scrap parts, and Dunbar served as the editor, creating a rare partnership between two of history’s greatest minds.

The inside scoop on Dayton happenings:

  • Live music, themed parties, and standout weekend events across Dayton neighborhoods.

  • Local groups making a real impact, from helping families to supporting youth.

  • Foodie favorites and hidden gems to plan your Friday night out.

Thick brush, tangled woods, and overgrown acres don’t just make your property look neglected—they limit how you can use your land. Trails disappear. Space gets wasted. And clearing it by hand feels impossible. That’s where Buckeye Land Services comes in.

We now provide high-power forestry mulching, the fastest and cleanest way to reclaim your land without damaging the soil. Our equipment pulverizes brush, vines, saplings, and undergrowth on the spot, turning it into nutrient-rich mulch that improves your soil while leaving your property clean, open, and instantly usable. No burning. No piles. No hauling. Just transformation.

Whether you’re carving out new trails, expanding your yard, prepping for a future build, or finally taking back acreage that’s been untouched for years, our team delivers professional, efficient clearing that dramatically improves visibility, access, and property value. The difference is night-and-day—and most projects are completed in a single day.

Serving landowners across the Miami Valley, we bring the right equipment, the right technique, and the local expertise to make your land work for you again.

A Simple Idea in Dayton Is Helping Patients Face Winter

A new initiative led by Dayton area healthcare workers is making sure patients in need don’t face the cold without warm clothing. Inspired by seeing people come into care without coats, hats, gloves, or blankets, a group of Kettering Health employees launched the nonprofit Coats for a Cure and opened a “Care Closet” at Soin Medical Center stocked with winter essentials. This second closet joins an earlier donation center at another local hospital, giving staff a way to help patients immediately when they’re in need of gear for cold Miami Valley weather. The goal is simple but powerful: to treat the whole person by addressing basic needs alongside medical care. It’s a reminder of the generosity in our community when neighbors take action to help neighbors stay safe and warm.

More Opportunities for Local Youth Growth This Summer

Dayton’s Victory Project is expanding its mission to serve young people by opening its first girls division this summer. For nearly two decades, the nonprofit has provided mentoring, tutoring, and life skills support to young men in the community, helping keep teens engaged in positive activities. Now, girls ages 12–14 will have access to the same faith-centered, hands-on environment focused on education, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Leaders say this addition responds to a community need and will give young women a safe place to grow, connect, and build confidence. The first sessions are planned to begin in Dayton’s Twin Towers neighborhood this August, with registration already underway.

Dayton Expertise Helping Power Moon Mission Research

The countdown to the next manned mission to the moon is underway, and a man from Dayton is helping make it happen. Doctor Rickey Shyne, who grew up in Dayton and graduated from Jefferson High School, is part of the team in Cleveland preparing to send four astronauts into lunar orbit for the first time in more than 50 years. Dr. Shyne has worked on NASA’s Artemis missions for nearly two decades, contributing to the research and engineering that supports human spaceflight. He currently serves as the director of research and engineering, helping guide work that will power Artemis II and future missions aimed at returning humans to the moon’s surface. It is a powerful reminder that world-changing science can start right here in Dayton and inspire the next generation of local dreamers.
