⚾ Playoff Baseball Is Coming Back Downtown, and Lawn Seats Are Five Bucks
The Dayton Dragons clinched the first half East Division championship, which punches their ticket to the 2026 Midwest League Playoffs. The best of three first round series opens on the road Tuesday, September 8, then comes home to Day Air Ballpark for Game Two on Thursday, September 10 at 7:05 p.m. and Game Three, if necessary, on Friday, September 11 at 7:05 p.m. Their opponent will be the East Division second half champion, still to be determined. Stadium seats are $10 and lawn seats are $5, and any home playoff game that does not end up being played gets refunded, so there is no downside to claiming seats early.
🚐 A Ride That Comes Right to the Door
RTA Connect is Greater Dayton RTA's door to door service, provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act for riders whose disability makes a fixed route bus unworkable for a given trip. It reaches all of Montgomery County, plus three quarters of a mile beyond fixed routes outside the county line, and runs 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., seven days a week, which covers early shifts and late evenings alike. Reservations are taken every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as late as the day before a trip or as far as seven days ahead. Riders begin with an application and a certification assessment through the RTA Certification Center, and RTA offers a Paratransit Rider's Guide and an online booking manual to walk through it, with rides booked at 937-425-8300 or connectonline.greaterdaytonrta.org.
🏗️ A Frisch's Big Boy Lot in Troy Is About to Become a Credit Union
Day Air Credit Union has construction underway on two new financial centers. One sits at 1231 N. Fairfield Road in Beavercreek and replaces an older branch at 2089 Dayton Xenia Road, while the other, at 20 Troy Town Drive on the former site of a Frisch's Big Boy, will be Day Air's first location in Miami County. Both are set to open in early 2027. The not for profit cooperative has grown quickly, from roughly $740 million in assets and 50,000 members in 2024 to more than $900 million and over 54,000 members now, and President John Theobald called the Beavercreek build "our continued investment in the Beavercreek community and our commitment to delivering an exceptional member experience."
The Kitchen Named After 855 Women Is Throwing Dayton Its First Food Summit

Next Tuesday, September 1, the Dayton Arcade hosts the From Scratch Food Summit, billed as Dayton's first ever event dedicated to local food entrepreneurs, and it is free to attend from 2 to 7 p.m. at 35 W. Fourth St.
The five hour lineup includes panel discussions, a founder showcase featuring dozens of local food businesses, plus local vendors and tastings, with registration at 6888kitchen.org/summit. The host is 6888 Kitchen Incubator, Dayton's only food business incubator, which opened in February 2024 as an initiative of the OH Taste Foundation.
Its name honors the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the 855 Black women who served in World War II under Lt. Col. Charity Adams Earley, the first African American woman to command an overseas U.S. military battalion and a woman who spent most of her life in Dayton, and in just two years the incubator has helped create 39 jobs while its members generated more than $720,000 in combined revenue.
Crystal Lynch, administrative assistant with 6888 Kitchen Incubator and the OH Taste Foundation, described it as "panel discussions, a founder showcase with dozens of local food businesses, and a citywide push to support small food entrepreneurs building generational wealth in our community."

Dayton Commission Passes a Resolution on Medicaid and SNAP
The Dayton City Commission passed Resolution 1017-26, formally opposing federal changes to Medicaid and SNAP enacted on July 4, 2025. Mayor Shenise Turner-Sloss said the concern is that eligible residents "lose coverage or food assistance not because they no longer qualify, but because of added red tape and bureaucracy," while Montgomery County Commissioner Judy Dodge pointed to an estimated $186 billion in nationwide SNAP cuts over the next 10 years and said "16 1/2% of our residents, which is more than 87,000 people are food insecure." Officials are asking Governor Mike DeWine and state agencies to communicate any changes clearly and in multiple formats, and Montgomery County has directed $110,000 to The Food Bank in 2026 after $1.5 million in 2025.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Wright State fell behind early and then answered with five unanswered goals to beat Indiana (PA) 5-1 on August 20 at Alumni Field. Charlotte de Keukelaere put IUP ahead in the 25th minute, before Alea Cook leveled it at 29:32 off a Taliah Pellizzari assist and Kylie Krynzel buried a penalty kick at 39:18. Caitlin Burger owned the second half with goals at 60:11 and 65:07, set up by Ruby Dunlevy and Aerial Fast, and Chloe Dunford added one at 89:49 with the clock nearly out. The Raiders outshot IUP 15 to 4 with 12 on goal, and neither Leigha Lauer nor Jordan Frantz had to make a single save, which moved Wright State to 2-0-1.
Next game: Wright State will face Kentucky in Lexington on Sunday, August 30 at 7 p.m.
