✈️ The Dayton Air Show Just Pulled One of Its Biggest Crowds Ever
The 52nd CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show wrapped last weekend with more than 90,000 fans pouring into Dayton International Airport over June 13 and 14, one of the strongest turnouts in the show's history. That crowd was roughly 35% larger than a sold-out Paycor Stadium, all showing up for a stacked lineup headlined by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Corsair, the T-33, and the Golden Knights. Sunday's rain tried to crash the party, but 90% of scheduled acts still took to the skies. Executive Director Kevin Franklin called Saturday one of the best the show has ever seen.

🛝 Beavercreek Launched a $100,000 Campaign to Bring Back a Beloved Slide
The city of Beavercreek, in partnership with the Beavercreek Enrichment Association, kicked off a $100,000 fundraising effort to replace the beloved Shoup Park Slide, a fixture for generations of local families. Inspections found that erosion had weakened the slide's footings over time, causing the metal sections to shift, crack, and develop sharp edges beyond any hope of repair. Rather than swap it out for plastic, the city chose to design a new metal slide, which carries accessibility benefits including less static electricity, an important consideration for those with hearing devices. Donations are open now through the city's website.

📚 Dayton Families Celebrated Reading This Past Weekend
Families across the Miami Valley gathered at the Lohrey Recreation Center on Saturday, June 13 for the Ohio Education Association's 4th annual Summer Celebration of Diverse Readers, a free book giveaway where kids picked up new titles featuring diverse characters written by diverse authors. OEA President Jeff Wensing said giving students access to stories where they can see themselves reflected opens doors to new ways of understanding the world. Beyond the books, the day included free food, face painting, arts and crafts, a photobooth, and a reader's corner. A great Saturday for Dayton families.

Dayton Is Where the Air Taxi of the Future Gets Built

Joby Aviation's plant on Concorde Drive, near Dayton International Airport, currently employs about 50 workers and recently ramped toward a second shift by the end of the month, with 75 to 95 employees expected there by year's end. Ten minutes away in Vandalia, a 700,000-square-foot facility off Capstone Way is being prepared as Joby's chief Ohio production site, where three full shifts of production are eventually planned. Dayton workers have been crafting the propeller blades that go on Joby's electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, with each plane requiring 40 blades, built with a level of precision the company compares to artistry. Trainer Sandra Wright, who runs Joby's training "dojo" at the Dayton plant, said she brings workers from zero to what the company calls "production hero" level, and described the work as holding a door open for her community. Dayton has always been where flight begins, and that story is still being written.

Your Weekly Dose of Home Advice
Before the first hot day hits, swap out your HVAC filter and give your AC unit a once-over. Check that the outdoor condenser is clear of debris, leaves, and anything that accumulated over winter. Turn the system on for a test run now so you're not discovering a problem on the hottest day of the year. If it hasn't been serviced in over a year, schedule a tune-up before the summer rush drives up wait times.

House Bill 479 passed the Ohio General Assembly and landed on Gov. Mike DeWine's desk, directing $350 million in surplus budget funds toward one-time property tax credits for recipients of Ohio's Homestead Exemption program. In Montgomery County, more than 31,000 qualifying homeowners stood to receive roughly an extra $500 in savings on their 2027 tax bills, adding up to more than $15 million in total local relief, according to County Auditor Karl Keith. Keith urged eligible residents not yet enrolled in the Homestead Exemption to apply before the October 30 deadline, since auditors must submit their recipient lists to the state at the start of November.
