Building more than beds in Dayton

A local nonprofit is stepping up to make that a reality, launching monthly bed builds for children across the Miami Valley who do not have a proper place to sleep. Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a volunteer-led group with chapters nationwide, is leading the effort by bringing the community together to build and deliver beds to families in need. Many children in the region are currently sleeping without a bed, and this initiative helps provide a safe, comfortable place to rest. Each build brings volunteers side by side, turning a simple project into something that directly impacts local families. With monthly events now in motion, the effort is creating lasting change and giving Dayton residents a meaningful way to support kids in their own community.

Cooper is a 15-year-old Labrador mix from Dayton's Deweese-Ridgecrest neighborhood, and if you ask his person Robin, he's been the heartbeat of the household for a decade. He came into the family when he was around 5 to help settle down a wild puppy (and by all accounts, he nailed it). Cool, calm, and steady, Cooper has always been the kind of dog who brings the temperature of a room down in the best way possible. Robin talked her son into sharing him, and she'll tell you it's one of the better deals she's ever made.

At 15, Cooper is still very much living his best Dayton life. He's a regular at Lucky Dog, where his daycare crew keeps him social, and he can spend hours at the dog park on Ridge Avenue soaking it all in. Car rides are basically a love language for him, and bacon? Well, Cooper dances for bacon (no further explanation needed). His hips are a little slower these days and he's gone a bit quieter, but on a sunny afternoon he'll still bust out the zoomies just to remind everyone he's got plenty left. Robin is making sure his last chapter is filled with as much fun and love as possible, because as she puts it, our best friends deserve nothing less. 🐾
