Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... the Dayton Peace Accords, which ended the Bosnian War, were negotiated at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in November 1995 - making a military base on the eastern edge of the Dayton metro one of the key diplomatic sites of the post-Cold War era.
Inside Today’s Edition…
Wright-Pat is back in full hiring mode, and thousands of new civilian jobs are on the way.
Four Dayton neighborhoods are getting free block parties all summer long.
A special gathering of 40+ historic open-cockpit biplanes is coming to the Air Force Museum this month.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
If you have ever called a contractor and hit voicemail, you already know what happens next. You hang up and call someone else.
It turns out that is not just an occasional inconvenience - it is one of the most consistent ways local home service businesses lose revenue without ever knowing it. Studies show that small home service businesses miss up to 62% of their incoming calls. And 85% of those callers never try again.
That is the problem DYT Digital was built to solve. They build systems that answer calls, capture lead information, and notify the business owner automatically - so no opportunity slips through the cracks while a technician is out on a job.
In their first week working with a local Dayton contractor, their system handled 34 calls, triggered 109 automated actions, and maintained 100% positive caller sentiment across every single interaction.
They also help local businesses show up stronger on Google - so when a homeowner is searching for a contractor at 9pm, the right business is the one that comes up.
If you know someone running an HVAC, plumbing, roofing, or home service business in Dayton, this is worth sending their way.

DAYTON DIGEST
✈️ Wright-Patterson Is Hiring Again, and the Numbers Are Big
After a round of federal workforce cuts in 2025, the Air Force and Space Force are swinging back in the other direction. The Air Force fiscal year 2027 budget request funds an increase of more than 4,100 civilian positions, while the Space Force is seeking nearly 1,900 additional civilian slots. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, home to Air Force Materiel Command and the largest concentration of employment in Ohio with about 38,000 military and civilian workers, held a hiring fair at Wright State University last month that drew nearly 850 pre-registered applicants. If you or someone you know has been eyeing a federal career, this is the moment to pay attention.
🎉 This Summer, Your Neighborhood Gets Its Own Block Party
The "Rec Your Hood" series is returning to Dayton for its third year, bringing free family-friendly block parties to four neighborhoods: Old Dayton View, Westwood, Historic Inner East, and Walnut Hills. Dates run from June 6 through August 1, with events held on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at neighborhood parks including Jane Reece/McIntosh Park, Westwood Park, Bomberger Park, and Walnut Hills Park. Expect live entertainment, food, and a chance to actually meet the people who live a few streets over.
🛩️ 40+ Rare Biplanes Are Flying Into Dayton This Month
The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will host a special Stearman biplane fly-in later this month, with more than 40 of the iconic open-cockpit aircraft expected to arrive beginning Friday, June 19. The planes will be on display behind Memorial Park through Sunday, June 21, with visiting hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and guests can speak directly with pilots and owners about each aircraft's history and restoration. The Stearman, designed by Lloyd Stearman in the 1930s, served as a primary trainer for countless World War II pilots before they advanced to bombers and fighters.

52 Years, 13 Acts, and the Blue Angels Overhead. The Dayton Air Show Is Almost Here.
The Centerpoint Energy Dayton Air Show presented by Kroger returns to Dayton International Airport this Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, and this year's edition is deliberately bigger than usual, built to honor America's 250th birthday. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headline a full slate of 13 performing acts, and organizers say the show is running longer than average this year to give the celebration the scale it deserves. Gates open at 9 a.m. with flying beginning shortly after 10 a.m. on both days, and tickets are still available online or at any Kroger location where last-minute buyers can save $3 on general admission. One thing worth knowing before you go: parking is already included in your ticket price, so there's no stopping to pay at the lot just pull in, find your space, and get comfortable. Organizers are urging everyone to come prepared for a full day in the sun: bring water, wear light-colored clothes, apply sunscreen, and know that staff in bright blue and red shirts will be posted throughout the grounds ready to help if you need anything.

Your Weekly Dose of Home Advice
Turn on each outdoor hose bib and check for leaks at the connection point and along any visible pipe. A slow drip left unaddressed can waste thousands of gallons over a summer and drive up your water bill without you noticing. If you have an irrigation system, run each zone manually and walk it to check for broken heads, misdirected spray, or zones that aren't activating. Early June is the right time to catch these before you're relying on the system daily.
