TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Dayton!

Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... the Dayton area's highway network was largely built between 1955 and 1975, with I-75 and I-70 crossing at a downtown interchange that displaced thousands of residents and businesses - the same story of urban highway construction that gutted neighborhoods in virtually every American city during the same period, and whose costs are only now being fully assessed.

The inside track on local happenings:

  • Free Santa photos and an ugly sweater contest at Sugarplum in Kettering.

  • The Air Force lifts its Joby commitment to nearly $37 million.

  • A seven-week Dayton course helps veterans walk out with a business plan.

FOODIE FRIDAY

Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of must‑try spots is here!

Tender Mercy
Order the Green Gaia, cucumber-infused gin with genepy, Midori and house tonic, or In the Company of Ghosts if you want scotch and fernet in the same glass. It has been named one of the best bars in America. Dozo, a separate omakase counter, lives down there too.

📍607 E 3rd St Lower Level, Dayton📍

Eric's Pretzels
Everything here is a soft pretzel and everything here is made by hand, which is a focused business model and it works. Garlic Butter is the one that converts people, Cinnamon Sugar is the one the kids demand, and Everything Seasoned is the one you did not know you wanted. They also make handmade pretzel buns if you are grilling.

📍101 E Alex-Bell Rd, Suite 176, Centerville📍

Tom & Dot's Gelato
More than 36 flavors of authentic Italian gelato sit in the case at any time, made from recipes brought straight from Italy, with seasonal batches rotating through. The menu runs past dessert too, with sandwiches, salads, coffee, and milkshakes. Dairy free sorbetto and gluten free bread mean nobody in your group gets left out.

✈️ Wright-Patt Puts More Behind Joby’s Autopilot
The Air Force has raised its commitment to Dayton aviation manufacturer Joby to nearly $37 million, and lifted the contract ceiling to $50 million. The money runs through AFWERX, the Air Force innovation arm at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and supports Joby’s autonomy software and testing in the Pacific. A Joby spokeswoman said the move represents $17 million in new funding. The company says a Cessna Caravan running its autonomy system flew from California to North Carolina’s Outer Banks with no control inputs from the safety pilot on board.
