An independent seafood house near The Greene is not something Beavercreek had for a long time. The Shrimp and Lobster Roll is the reason most people come back, and the Shrimp and Grits holds its own against anywhere in the metro. Agave Salmon if you want something lighter. They run a weekend brunch too, which is unusual for a seafood-first kitchen.

🎄 Downtown Dayton Is Looking for a Tree, and It Might Be in Your Yard
The Downtown Dayton Partnership is hunting for the evergreen that will anchor the 2026 Dayton Holiday Festival on Courthouse Square. They are after a full tree, 40 to 50 feet tall, with minimal bare spots, and they prefer Colorado green spruce or blue spruce, though other evergreens will be considered. Crews handle the whole job at no cost to the owner, including cutting it down, removing the stump, and hauling it downtown to be strung with lights. Nominations are open now on the Dayton Holiday Festival website, and the winning tree gets picked at the end of October.
🎓 Ohio Just Landed the Largest Talent Search Grant in the Country
Ohio has been awarded a $50 million federal Talent Search Grant, the biggest award of its kind and the only one given to a new state, according to Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Higher Education chancellor Mike Duffey. The money arrives as $10 million a year over five years and will reach 20,000 low-income and first-generation students across 130 schools. Sinclair Community College is one of the named partners, alongside College Now, Junior Achievement, and the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative. The plan puts advisors directly inside middle and high schools to connect students with tutoring, career exploration, college application help, and apprenticeships.
🎺 Heads Up, Miamisburg: Main Street Closes Saturday Morning
The Shriner's Parade steps off in downtown Miamisburg at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 12. According to the Miamisburg Police Department, road closures begin around 10:30 a.m. and stay up until the parade finishes, which should take about 90 minutes. The route runs from Main Street to Ferry Street and ends at Riverfront Park. If you had errands planned in that stretch, build in some extra time, or just claim a curb spot and watch it go by.
$103,550 Is Headed Straight Into 11 Dayton Neighborhoods
The City of Dayton's Division of Community Engagement announced Wednesday that $103,550 is going to 11 neighborhood improvement projects through the 2026 Neighborhood Mini-Grant Program, and every one of them started as an idea from the people who live there. That funding turns into real things you can walk up to: a solar installation at the Claridge Community Hub in McCook Field, tree planting and park repairs in Dayton View Historic, a Safe Street Lighting project in the Oregon Historic District, and new fitness equipment at College Hill Park. Walnut Hills Association received $3,550 for park beautification, Grafton Hill Association is funding a McKinley Park master plan and two new benches, East Dayton Neighborhood Development Corp. is adding message boards, and Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association is putting $10,000 toward Taste of Old North Dayton. On the storytelling side, the Edgemont Community Coalition and Carillon Civic Council each received $10,000 for Stories Beneath the Bridge, and the Dayton African American Cultural Festival received $10,000 for "Culture Is Healing." Since 2008, the program has awarded more than $1.1 million across the city, built on a simple idea that holds up well here: the people who live on a street usually know best what it needs.
