🧗 110 floors to remember those who ran toward danger
More than 200 people climbed the equivalent of 110 floors inside the University of Dayton Arena Thursday to honor first responders who died during the Sept. 11 attacks. Some participants made the climb in full firefighter gear, while others climbed alongside family members. Afterward, participants read aloud the names of those who died, with organizers emphasizing the importance of keeping the memory of 9/11 alive for younger generations. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine also attended and reflected on the courage shown by first responders at the World Trade Center.
🔬 A new place for Dayton students to build what comes next
The Dayton Regional STEM Schools is planning an 11,000-square-foot addition that will become the Larry R. & Elaine A. Dosser Center for Manufacturing Sciences. The center will include a manufacturing sciences lab, chemical physics lab, materials science classroom, innovation studios, collaboration space and presentation areas. Students will get hands-on opportunities in research, product design, automation, materials testing and engineering, with the center expected to serve students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Construction is expected to begin this fall, with the center anticipated to open during the 2027-2028 school year.
🦅 Two very Dayton symbols are sharing the same skyline
A pair of bald eagles has made its home in a sycamore tree directly above Wright Hall at Carillon Historical Park, where the 1905 Wright Flyer III is displayed. The eagles recently welcomed two eaglets named Liberty and America, and bald eagles have nested at the park since 2018. The connection recently received national recognition after U.S. Rep. Mike Turner entered the eagles and their connection to the Wright Brothers National Museum into the Congressional Record.
86 veterans came home to a Dayton welcome

For 86 veterans, Saturday’s final Honor Flight Dayton trip of 2026 was a day to visit the national memorials built to honor their service, followed by a Welcome Home from the community they returned to. Honor Flight Dayton’s mission is to bring Korean, Vietnam and Cold War veterans to Washington, D.C., at no cost, giving them the opportunity to visit the memorials dedicated to their service. Their day included stops at the WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Lincoln, USMC and Air Force memorials, along with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery to witness the Changing of the Guard Ceremony. Making the journey possible took a community effort, with volunteers delivering 48 wheelchairs for veterans who needed them and 50 volunteers helping prepare for their return to Dayton International Airport. Then came the Welcome Home, where family, friends, fellow veterans, active-duty service members and community members gathered to greet them, bringing the final Honor Flight of 2026 back where it belonged: home in Dayton, surrounded by people who came to say thank you.
