Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Dayton was home to the Barney and Smith Car Company, which in the late 1800s was one of the largest manufacturers of railroad passenger cars in the United States - the company built cars for railroads from New York to California from a massive factory complex on Dayton's east side.

Sinclair launches a campaign to help fight summer hunger.

FOODIE FRIDAY
Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of must‑try spots is here!
Stan the Donut Man
Has been making homemade donuts on Wilmington Ave for decades, and the shop only has seven barstools, which tells you everything about how small and personal this place stays. The Reese's Delight and maple bacon donuts have built a loyal following, and everything is made from scratch by hand. It is proof the best donut shop in town does not need to be big to be beloved.
📍1441 Wilmington Ave, Dayton📍
Branch & Bone Artisan Ales
Branch & Bone in Dayton's South Park neighborhood is turning heads in the craft beer world with some of the most inventive and well-executed small-batch ales in the region. The rotating taps lean experimental and the results consistently impress. A must-visit for anyone who takes their beer seriously in the Gem City.
📍905 Wayne Ave, Dayton📍
Dozo Sushi
Downtown Dayton's underground sushi experience, operating out of the back room of Tender Mercy with a curated menu of Japanese small plates, delicate nigiri, and inventive rolls from Executive Chef Jake Montanye. The space holds just 38 seats, the sake list is thoughtfully curated, and the whole thing feels like a discovery you want to keep to yourself. If you want something that genuinely does not exist anywhere else in the Dayton area, Dozo is the answer.
📍607 E 3rd St, Lower Level, Dayton📍

DAYTON DIGEST
🥪 The Summer Meals Gap They're Working to Close
When school cafeterias close for summer, many children lose reliable access to daily meals. Sinclair's Summer Hunger Relief campaign, part of the company's nationwide Sinclair Cares initiative, is partnering with Feeding America to help provide food assistance during those months. The campaign is raising awareness of what experts call the "summer meals gap," when families often face increased food costs while school meal programs are unavailable. Donations and support from the campaign benefit local food banks serving communities across the country.
🏗️ A $41 Million Project Headed to Wright Patterson
Messer Construction has been awarded a $40.9 million contract to build a new district cooling plant supporting the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. NASIC serves as the Department of Defense's primary center for analyzing foreign air and space threats, making the facility one of the Air Force's most important intelligence operations. The project was awarded through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is expected to provide critical infrastructure for the growing intelligence complex at the base. Construction is projected to continue through late 2028.
🍽️ University of Dayton Is Hiring Before Students Return
The University of Dayton will host a job fair in July for positions within its dining and facilities operations ahead of the fall semester. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet hiring representatives, learn about available roles, and receive assistance with the application process. The hiring effort supports the campus services that serve thousands of students, faculty, staff, and visitors throughout the academic year. For job seekers looking for flexible campus employment, the event offers a direct path to connect with university hiring teams.

Nearly 50 Students Got a Hands On Look at Saving Lives
A group of 49 high school students spent three days exploring healthcare careers during the Wright State University and Premier Health Nursing and Health Careers Camp. The students practiced CPR, AED operation, Stop the Bleed emergency response techniques, patient assessments, and clinical simulations using advanced medical training equipment. They also toured Miami Valley Hospital, met healthcare professionals from a variety of specialties, and learned about career pathways in nursing and other health professions. The camp was designed for rising high school juniors and seniors who are considering futures in healthcare and want exposure to real-world medical settings. As healthcare providers across Ohio continue to face workforce shortages, programs like this help introduce students to careers that are essential to the region's future.
