🎭 The Schuster Center Is Getting A Major Upgrade
The Schuster Center's Wintergarden and main entrance are now closed as work begins on a major renovation project, but performances inside the theater will continue as scheduled. During construction, visitors should expect to use alternate entrances and follow updated wayfinding signs when attending shows. The improvements are aimed at modernizing public spaces while preserving one of downtown Dayton's most recognizable cultural landmarks. Once completed, the project is expected to create a more welcoming and accessible experience for theatergoers for years to come.

🏭 Belmont Students Will Train For Jobs In A Growing Industry
Belmont High School has received a $320,000 state grant to expand its advanced manufacturing program, giving students more opportunities to gain hands-on technical experience before graduation. The funding will support equipment and learning opportunities designed to prepare students for careers in Ohio's manufacturing workforce, where skilled workers remain in high demand. Programs like this help students graduate with practical skills while strengthening the pipeline of local talent for Dayton-area employers. It's an investment in both today's students and the region's future economy.
Dayton Veterans Returned Home With More Than Medals

Athletes representing the Dayton VA Medical Center made their community proud at this year's National Wheelchair Games in Detroit, earning an impressive 43 medals across multiple sports. Fourteen Veterans competed as Team Dayton, finishing with 21 gold, 13 silver, and 9 bronze medals, while two first-time competitors also made their mark at the national event. Their performances reflected months of training, determination, and teamwork, supported by coaches Amanda Comer, Marlene Davis-Pierce, and Jennifer Fultz. The National Wheelchair Games celebrate adaptive sports and give Veterans the opportunity to compete at the highest level while building confidence, friendships, and resilience. For Dayton, Team Dayton's success is another reminder that the strength of our community is often found in the people quietly inspiring others through perseverance and service.

Ohio families will once again be able to shop without paying state sales tax on eligible school-related purchases, but they'll have less time to do it. The 2026 sales tax holiday runs from Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9, returning to its traditional three-day weekend after last year's expanded two-week event. Lawmakers ended the longer holiday as part of broader property tax relief legislation, reversing Gov. Mike DeWine's temporary expansion that was intended to provide additional savings for families. If you're planning to buy school supplies, clothing, or other qualifying back-to-school items, it's a good idea to plan ahead since the tax-free window will be much shorter this year.
