Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Dayton's downtown once had an extensive electric streetcar network that carried riders all the way to Oakwood, Kettering, and Huber Heights before it was dismantled in the late 1940s and early 1950s - a timeline that mirrors virtually every other American city that traded rail for roads.

Angelina came home from a three day family trip to find sewage rising out of her basement into her shower and toilet. Four to five inches of it.
She called Advantage Plumbing Heating & Air. Dustin and Ramsey showed up, diagnosed the problem, snaked the drain and the foundation line, and walked her through everything they were doing step by step. She now requests those two technicians by name every time she calls.
That's who you're dealing with.
Right now Advantage is offering $89 drain clearing with a one year guarantee. Every job includes a free camera inspection of your pipes so you know exactly what you're dealing with. If they find something, you get an honest estimate. No pressure, no obligation.
A slow drain won't fix itself. The longer you wait, the worse it gets.

⛷️ From Low Vision to Ski Slopes: A Dayton VA Veteran Finds His Way Back to the Mountain
Bruce Hall, a veteran and employee in the Dayton VA Low Vision Clinic, recently traveled to Snowmass, Colorado for the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, a five-day event where veterans with spinal cord injuries, visual impairments, TBIs, amputations, and other severe disabilities are challenged to push past perceived limitations through adaptive skiing, scuba diving, rock wall climbing, and more. It was Bruce's second year at the clinic, and he came back sharper on the slopes, improving his speed, turning, and stopping. The event, sponsored by the VA and Disabled American Veterans (DAV), has grown from 90 participants in 1987 to nearly 400 veterans today, and Bruce is already hoping to return next year to try sled hockey.
🎓 Beavercreek's Scholarship Luncheon Returns
The annual Beavercreek Women's Scholarship Luncheon brought dozens of supporters to the DoubleTree in Fairborn on Saturday for a cause that has been running for more than 40 years. The money raised goes directly to scholarships for Beavercreek High School seniors and women who are returning to school to further their education. Four decades in, this luncheon is proof that a community showing up year after year can quietly change a lot of lives.

$40 Million Gift Will Reimagine Children's Health Care Across the Dayton Region

Dayton Children's Hospital has received a historic $40 million donation from entrepreneur and philanthropist Tom Golisano. The investment will fund expanded access to pediatric primary care, embed behavioral health into every level of care, and bring services directly into the schools and neighborhoods where kids live and grow. The hospital's main campus on Valley Street will be renamed the Golisano Comprehensive Care Campus in recognition of the gift. President and CEO Debbie Feldman said the goal is to get upstream, intervening earlier and redesigning care around the whole child instead of waiting for a crisis. Dayton Children's will also join the Golisano Children's Alliance, a national network of children's hospitals working together to improve pediatric outcomes across the country.

Your Weekly Dose of Home Advice
Most water heaters last 8 to 12 years, and most homeowners have no idea how old theirs is. Check the serial number on the label - the manufacturer's website can decode the production date. Look for rust around the base, listen for popping or rumbling sounds during heating cycles, and check the pressure relief valve for any signs of leaking. Catching a failing water heater before it goes saves you from a flooded utility room and an emergency replacement bill.
