Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... John Henry Patterson also built model worker villages on the NCR campus in Dayton's South Park neighborhood, with parks, cafeterias, and bathhouses - decades before corporate campuses became a Silicon Valley idea.

Carillon Park's beloved Fleurs de Fête returns Sunday with 400+ wines and gourmet bites from local restaurants.

Angelina came home from a three day family trip to find sewage rising out of her basement into her shower and toilet. Four to five inches of it.
She called Advantage Plumbing Heating & Air. Dustin and Ramsey showed up, diagnosed the problem, snaked the drain and the foundation line, and walked her through everything they were doing step by step. She now requests those two technicians by name every time she calls.
That's who you're dealing with.
Right now Advantage is offering $89 drain clearing with a one year guarantee. Every job includes a free camera inspection of your pipes so you know exactly what you're dealing with. If they find something, you get an honest estimate. No pressure, no obligation.
A slow drain won't fix itself. The longer you wait, the worse it gets.

🌍 A Wright State Professor Turned a Research Trip Into a Classroom Revolution
Dr. Dan Warshawsky, a geography professor at Wright State University, recently traveled to India to study how food banks there operate, interviewing leaders at organizations serving communities across the country. What he found was striking: Indian food banks run leaner, move faster, and serve differently than their American counterparts. Starting Spring 2027, he is weaving that real-world research directly into a redesigned core course so students engage with global hunger as a living problem, not a textbook chapter.
🎓 Two Dayton Schools Celebrate 10 Years of Affordable Degrees
Ten years ago, the University of Dayton and Sinclair Community College created the UD-Sinclair Academy, a partnership that lets Sinclair students work toward a UD degree from day one. The result: more than 250 graduates, a 95% four-year completion rate, and nearly 80% of those graduates choosing to stay right here in Dayton.

The Party at Carillon Park Is Back, and It Is One of Dayton's Best Afternoons of the Year
Fleurs de Fête returns to Carillon Historical Park this Sunday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m., and it is exactly the kind of thing that makes a Dayton spring feel special. Now in its 33rd year, the event brings more than 400 wine selections, gourmet bites from local restaurants, live music from the Kim Kelly Orchestra, a silent auction, a Belgian Beer Garden, and live painting by artist Bley Hack, all in the open air behind Carillon Brewing Co. Tickets are $80 in advance and $85 at the door, and every dollar goes directly to Dayton History, the nonprofit that keeps Carillon Historical Park running for this community. You must be 21 or older to attend, and the event is rain or shine.

Your Weekly Dose of Home Advice
Heavy spring rain season is here, which means your sump pump needs to be working before you need it. Pour a bucket of water into the pit to confirm the float triggers and the pump activates. While you're thinking about water management, check every drain in your home for slow drainage - sluggish drains in spring often mean buildup that worsens through summer. A slow drain is easier and cheaper to address now than a backed-up one later.

CITY HALL
Dayton & Montgomery County is asking anyone who recently received a vintage novelty cup from the Root Beer Stande to stop using it. After a complaint was filed, inspectors tested the space-themed cups on May 8 and found lead levels above Ohio's safety standards. If you have one, set it aside, keep it away from children, and reach out to the restaurant about a return or replacement. The Root Beer Stande is cooperating with Public Health, which is also working with the Ohio Department of Health to trace the source and make sure no additional items are affected.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Photo Credit: Photo by: Addyson Olsen // WSU Raiders
Sunday's game at Northern Kentucky was the kind you remember. The Wright State Raiders trailed by six early and answered with one of the most complete offensive performances of the season, scoring 17 runs on 16 hits with every single batter reaching base multiple times. Cy Turner was electric, hitting two home runs and driving in five. JP Peltier launched his 10th homer of the year, Gus Gregory iced it with a three-run blast in the ninth, and Andrew Duncan and Patrick Fultz each went 3-for-the-day. Cooper Ashby earned his first career win in Green and Gold, and the Raiders improved to 25-23 overall, 17-4 in the Horizon League.
Next game: Wright State will face Ohio State in Columbus on Tuesday, May 12 at 6 p.m.
