Good evening, Dayton!

Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know…With over 350 miles of converted rail lines, Dayton is the gateway to the nation's largest paved trail system, offering an unmatched interconnected playground for cyclists and hikers.

Tonight’s Top Stories Around Dayton:

  • A new tiny-home village could bring 40 affordable homes to Dayton’s community.

  • Dayton Mall area gets a major makeover plan, with residents invited to share ideas.

  • Local charities spread holiday magic, delivering toys, beds, and warmth to kids.

Thick brush, tangled woods, and overgrown acres don’t just make your property look neglected—they limit how you can use your land. Trails disappear. Space gets wasted. And clearing it by hand feels impossible. That’s where Buckeye Land Services comes in.

We now provide high-power forestry mulching, the fastest and cleanest way to reclaim your land without damaging the soil. Our equipment pulverizes brush, vines, saplings, and undergrowth on the spot, turning it into nutrient-rich mulch that improves your soil while leaving your property clean, open, and instantly usable. No burning. No piles. No hauling. Just transformation.

Whether you’re carving out new trails, expanding your yard, prepping for a future build, or finally taking back acreage that’s been untouched for years, our team delivers professional, efficient clearing that dramatically improves visibility, access, and property value. The difference is night-and-day—and most projects are completed in a single day.

Serving landowners across the Miami Valley, we bring the right equipment, the right technique, and the local expertise to make your land work for you again.

Affordable Homes Coming to Dayton
A local nonprofit is moving forward with plans to build about 40 tiny homes in Dayton as a new kind of supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness. The project, called Beacon Place Village, is designed as a small, community-style neighborhood with basic services and stability for residents. If approved, it could become one of the largest tiny-home communities in the region, offering a practical step toward more affordable housing options.

What’s Next for the Dayton Mall Area?
Local leaders have officially kicked off a major update to turn the Dayton Mall area into a walkable, mixed‑use town center. The new master plan will look at better land use, more housing, pedestrian‑friendly retail, and improved transportation around the mall and its 400+ surrounding businesses. Residents, workers, and shoppers are invited to share ideas through a public survey and upcoming engagement events, since community input is key to shaping the future of this economic hub.

Miami Valley Graduates Find Strong Footing in a Tough Job Market
As graduation season nears, local college graduates are landing jobs or continuing education at rates well above national figures. A recent report notes that while only about 30 percent of graduates nationally secure full-time work in their major field, students from Miami Valley institutions like Wright State University, the University of Dayton, and Cedarville University are reporting placement rates in the 90-percent range. Career services leaders and local officials credit strong employer connections and regional job opportunities for these results.

FLOC Celebrates a Record-Breaking Year of Love for Dayton’s Children

Thirty years ago, For Love of Children (FLOC) started with one simple mission — bringing Christmas joy to just 35 children. This year, that love reached 1,272 children through Montgomery County Children Services, marking the largest single toy drop-off in FLOC’s history, made possible with the support of partners like Dyer, Garofalo, Mann & Schultz, LPA.

Each red bag delivered more than a coat, a toy, or a stocking — it carried warmth, dignity, and a powerful message: you matter, you are seen, and you are not forgotten.

I can just imagine so many of these little happy faces on Christmas morning — and not only them, but their parents too.

Betsy Hoobler Skill Center Director, FLOC - Maria Rodriguez

This work is not about the numbers, even when they are incredible. It is about the moments — the smiles, the relief felt by parents, and the magic of Christmas made possible because a community showed up. Thanks to donors, volunteers, shoppers, wrappers, and everyone who lifted, carried, and prayed over these gifts, more than 4,000 children will be served across all FLOC Christmas programs this year. Warm Places, Warmer Hearts: Where You Can Find Dayton Area Warming Centers This Weekend

This weekend’s bitter cold has community centers, libraries, and rec halls across the Dayton region opening their doors so neighbors can get out of the frigid weather and stay safe. Places like the Greater Dayton Recreation Center, Lohrey Recreation Center, and Northwest Recreation Center in Dayton are welcoming folks during set hours, while nearby communities from Vandalia to Greene County have their own centers available for warmth and rest. This effort matters because prolonged exposure to subzero wind chills can be dangerous, and having accessible, welcoming spaces helps protect vulnerable neighbors in chilly conditions.
