THE DAYTON DIGEST
🌳 Adventure Awaits in Dayton
Wright State University and Five Rivers MetroParks just wrapped up the 20th annual Adventure Summit, drawing over 2,000 guests to the Wright State Student Union for a free, three-day celebration of the outdoors. Featured speakers Brian and Michelle Coleman shared how a simple hike in Five Rivers MetroParks sparked a journey that eventually took them across North America and Europe. The event featured 35 community presentations, hands-on activities like kayaking and climbing, and an outdoor gear swap open to all. Organizers say the goal is simple: remind Dayton that adventure is closer than most people think.
🏥 Big Healthcare Investment Coming to Greene County
Kettering Health just announced it is putting more than $25 million into healthcare facilities in Xenia and the surrounding Greene County area. More than $15 million will go toward renovating Kettering Health Greene Memorial, with updates focused on the patient experience and exterior improvements expected to be completed by the end of 2026. This spring, the health network will also break ground on a brand-new 24,000-square-foot outpatient health center at the REACH site in Xenia, with completion targeted for the end of 2028. Xenia Mayor Ethan Reynolds called it "a new dawn" for the city's relationship with Kettering Health, noting the investment will keep Greene Memorial open and bring expanded services closer to home.
🚁 Dayton Just Hosted One of the World's Biggest Drone Races
Thousands of spectators packed the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force over the weekend for the seventh annual Micro Drone Race, where 64 pilots from across the globe competed inside the Korean War Gallery. Pilots came from Canada, Europe, Asia, and multiple states, with tickets selling out within four minutes of going on sale. Competitors raced palm-sized drones hitting speeds up to 45 mph around a course that wound through historic aircraft, including the C-124 Globemaster II and the F-82 Twin Mustang. The event also featured STEM exhibits from the Engineers Club of Dayton and Sinclair College, with competitors as young as 7 years old joining the competition.

Dayton Is Investing in Its Youngest Leaders, and It Starts This Spring
The City of Dayton's Department of Recreation has launched the NextGen Leaders series, a six-week program designed to give teens between the ages of 13 and 17 hands-on leadership training in a real professional setting. The program is structured in three two-week phases: the first covering orientation, workplace foundations, and recreation opportunities; the second focusing on leadership, communication, and youth sports fundamentals; and the final phase diving into coaching principles, positive behavior management, and career reflection. Now This kind of structured, skill-building opportunity gives Dayton teens a chance to gain experience that many adults spend years trying to find on the job. It is a meaningful investment in the next generation of Dayton neighbors, coaches, and community leaders, and it shows that the city sees real potential in its young people. If you know a teenager in the Dayton area who is ready to step up, this could be the opportunity that changes their path.

The Dayton Police Department is conducting juvenile curfew sweeps throughout February and March, reminding families that anyone under 18 is prohibited from being on public streets, alleys, or parks between 11PM and 5AM without a parent or guardian present. The effort comes in response to data showing that more than 80 minors were victims of violent crimes, including aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, and murder, between 2023 and 2025. Any youth found in violation will be transported to the East Patrol District on Wayne Ave., where a parent or guardian must pick them up, and both will receive a minor misdemeanor citation along with a list of community resources.
