The hottest day of the year is the worst time to find out your AC isn't ready for it.
Most breakdowns don't happen randomly. A worn capacitor, low refrigerant, a dirty coil - small problems that went undetected through winter and finally gave out under the pressure of a July heat wave. A failed compressor costs $1,500 to $2,500 to replace. An emergency call runs double the normal rate.
A $99 spring tune-up from Advantage Plumbing Heating & Air catches those problems now, before they become a midsummer emergency.
When Elliot's AC broke right after he bought his house, Advantage came out, found the issue, fixed it, and didn't charge him for the visit. That's who these people are.
4.8 stars. 918 Dayton reviews. They show up, they're honest, and they fix it right the first time.
Book your $99 AC tune-up before April 30th.

The Man Who Flew 7,500 Veterans Home Is Finally Taking His Own Victory Lap

Al Bailey spent 20 years as President of Honor Flight Dayton, and on May 30, 2026, he led his 180th and final Honor Flight, closing out a chapter that helped more than 7,500 Dayton-area veterans make the trip to Washington, D.C. at no cost. Across his two decades with the program, Bailey helped 25 other states launch their own Honor Flight hubs and contributed to more than 12,000 veterans total making the journey. For many veterans, especially those who came home from Vietnam without a proper welcome, the trip has been described as the best day of their lives, and Bailey says their families say they never stop talking about it. A Vietnam veteran himself, Bailey was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2022 for his decades of service both in uniform and through Honor Flight. Steve Gray, a U.S. Air Force veteran, will take over as Director and President as the organization continues its mission across the region.

Your Weekly Dose of Home Advice
Most homeowners don't realize ceiling fans have a summer and winter setting. In summer, fans should run counterclockwise to push air straight down and create a cooling effect. Look for the small direction switch on the motor housing and confirm yours are set correctly before the heat arrives. Running fans on the correct setting can make a room feel up to four degrees cooler, which means less work for your AC and a lower electric bill.

CITY HALL
Sen. Jon Husted has introduced the bipartisan CONNECT Act, which would help foster care youth ages 14 to 21 build support networks and access housing, education, and employment assistance as they transition to adulthood. A companion bill passed the House on May 19. The legislation updates the long-standing Chafee Foster Care program and gives young people more say in their own permanency plans.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
The Dayton Dragons (28-22) topped the Great Lakes Loons 3-2 in the series finale on May 31 at Day Air Ballpark, winning the six-game series four games to two in what was the Loons' first road series loss of 2026. Starter Sterling Patick delivered five scoreless innings, striking out seven batters including the side in the fifth. The decisive runs came in the sixth and seventh innings, with Peyton Stovall launching a go-ahead two-run home run and Carter Graham adding an RBI single to seal it.
University of Dayton junior Camryn Thompson made history on May 30 at the NCAA East First Round in Lexington, Kentucky, becoming the first Flyer in program history to compete in the high jump at the event. Thompson entered as the 48th seed, cleared 1.71 meters, narrowly missed at 1.76 meters, and finished 29th overall in a milestone performance that caps a breakout season for the Powell, Ohio native. The result closes the #UDTF season on a genuinely historic note.
