Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Beavercreek, one of the fastest-growing cities in the Dayton metro, was largely farmland until the post-World War II expansion of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base drove a wave of residential development that turned it into a suburb of over 45,000 people.
The inside track on local happenings:
Vandalia Flight Fest kicks off this Friday with 20 food trucks, live music, and pilots you can actually talk to
Dayton's west side just got its first brand-new police station in 30 years
The Dayton World Soccer Games are returning in September, and registration is open now

FOODIE FRIDAY
Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of must‑try spots is here!
Chiapas Mexican Grill
A fresh, fast-casual Mexican spot the area needed. Tacos, burritos, and bowls with bold flavors and real ingredients. The chicken tinga and guacamole are the ones to start with.
📍298 N Main St, Centerville📍
Van Buren Room
A cocktail bar tucked inside the Belle of Dayton Distillery in the Oregon District, where every drink on the menu is built around the spirits distilled right there on the premises. The intimate single-room bar with its gin-forward menu, Bourbon collection, and locally crafted cocktails like the Witching Hour and The Elder is an absolute gem for anyone who takes their drinks seriously.
📍122 Van Buren St, Dayton📍
Old Hickory Bar-B-Q Carryout
Has been a Dayton BBQ institution for years with smoke-kissed ribs, pulled pork, and sauce that locals swear by. It is a no-frills carryout spot where the meat speaks for itself. Order extra and thank yourself at home.
📍241 Woodman Dr, Dayton📍

DAYTON DIGEST
🏛️ Dayton's West Side Just Got Its First New Police Station in 30 Years
The City of Dayton dedicated its new West District Police Station at 3000 West Third Street this week, the first newly constructed police facility in the city in over three decades. The $10 million project was funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and the Dayton Recovery Plan, and positions officers closer to neighborhoods like Westwood and Residence Park. Police Chief Eric Henderson said the location puts officers right in the heart of the community they serve, and approximately 90 officers will be based there. The facility will also serve as a training center and host community events, including a revamped citizens police academy.
✈️ 28 Wright State Aviation Students Are Getting Their Wings at the Air Show
Wright State University is honoring 28 aviation students this weekend with a ceremonial wing pinning at the Dayton Air Show, recognizing the completion of their first FAA pilot certification. The milestone is part of the Aviation Science and Technology Program, where students with little or no prior experience train at First Flight Aviation at the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport in Miamisburg. Program director Diane Vitas called aviation remarkable and contagious, and the Air Show recognition is designed to motivate students to keep pushing toward becoming certified flight instructors.
⚽ The Dayton World Soccer Games Are Back, and Registration Is Open Now
The City of Dayton has announced that the Dayton World Soccer Games are returning on September 12 at the Kettering Field Sports Complex, with team registration open now. The event, hosted by the Department of Recreation in partnership with Welcome Dayton, first launched in 2012 to bring together immigrant and native-born residents through their shared love of the game. Each team represents a country and must include at least one player with ancestry or immigrant ties to that nation, and registration is first-come, first-served, with only one team accepted per country per age bracket. The tournament is back after a pause of several years, and spots are expected to fill fast.

Vandalia Is Rolling Out the Red Carpet for the Whole Miami Valley This Friday

The 2026 Vandalia Flight Fest is back this Friday at 1111 Stonequarry Road, free to attend, and stacked with 20 food trucks, live music from the "As You Were Army Band" and an American Idol finalist, and real access to the pilots and performers who make the Dayton Air Show one of the biggest aviation events in the country. This is the official kickoff to the Air Show and part of a 51-year tradition rooted in Dayton's identity as the birthplace of flight. City Manager Kurt Althouse said the performers, from fighter jet pilots to stunt flyers to parachute troops, actively want to engage with the community, not just perform for it. That means Friday night you could be standing next to the person who flew the jet you just watched and actually asking them what it feels like. Free tickets, but registration is required. Go get yours.
