❄️ Up to $1,500 for AC repairs, if you apply by Sept. 30
The Miami Valley Community Action Partnership's Summer Crisis Program closes Sept. 30, offering eligible households up to $500 on electric bills (up to $800 for unregulated utility customers), up to $1,500 toward central AC repairs, and air conditioners or fans while supplies last. It's open to residents of Darke, Greene, Montgomery and Preble counties with household income at or below 175% of the federal poverty line ($57,750 for a family of four), plus one qualifier such as a household member 60 or older, a medical condition worsened by heat, or a pending electric shutoff. Montgomery County's in-person appointments are full, but walk-ins are still accepted at 719 S. Main St., and you can also apply online through Ohio's Energy Assistance Portal with an OHID account. Bring proof of income, proof of citizenship, and recent electric and gas bills, and have everything in by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30.
🏗️ The old fairgrounds' next act comes with a podcast studio
The 120,000-square-foot Think Dayton building is rising at East Stewart and South Main streets on the former Montgomery County Fairgrounds, with completion expected in summer 2027. Inside will be 60 office suites, creative labs, meeting rooms, a lounge and a podcast production area, with onMain hoping to host up to 90 companies alongside Air Force researchers and academics, including the University of Dayton Research Institute's Digital Transformation Center. It's the first building in the 38-acre onMain Innovation District, a partnership of Premier Health and the University of Dayton. The campus has space for 15 buildings, a community plaza residents will help plan, and the historic Roundhouse, dating back to 1874 and set aside for community use.
🦆 More than 20,000 rubber ducks took over the Great Miami
The 23rd annual URS Rubber Duck Regatta presented by AES Ohio returned to RiverScape MetroPark on Saturday, Sept. 19, with the duck drop at 4:30 p.m. and more than 20,000 rubber ducks racing down the Great Miami River. Adoptions started at $5 for a single duck, with packs at $25, $50 and $100 for better odds at the prize table. Every duck supports United Rehabilitation Services, which for 70 years has provided early childhood education, therapy, adult day services and employment services to more than 1,000 local children and adults a year. That is a lot of good riding on one small rubber duck.
About 200 classic cars turned Carillon Park into a time machine

For one Sunday a year, Carillon Historical Park becomes a showroom of the past, and today about 200 antique and classic automobiles gleamed across the grounds for the Dayton Concours d'Elegance. The show lands on the second Sunday after Labor Day with a new theme every year. It's set inside a park that's also home to the Wright Brothers National Museum and the James F. Dicke Family Transportation Center.
The celebration kicked off Saturday night at the Preview Party, where guests got an early look at the cars with music, food, drinks, a silent auction and an automotive art pavilion. Every ticket did more than open the gate: all proceeds benefit Dayton History, the privately funded nonprofit that connects new generations with the people, places and events that changed Dayton and the world. If you missed it, pencil in the second Sunday after Labor Day, when 1000 Carillon Blvd. fills with chrome all over again.
