Good morning, Dayton!
Here’s Your Daily Dose of Dayton
Did you know... Dayton's Huffman Prairie Flying Field is the only place in the world where powered, controlled flight was practiced and perfected by the people who invented it - making it not just a historic site but the actual location where the modern age of aviation was worked out, one increasingly longer and more controlled flight at a time, in a cow pasture east of the city.
The inside track on local happenings:
A Huber Heights back-to-school bash offers free clothes and fun Saturday.
Dayton Children's Hospital opens a new walk-in clinic in Vandalia.
Montgomery County puts $250K toward a new Boys & Girls Club facility.

FOODIE FRIDAY
Dayton foodies, your weekend lineup of must‑try spots is here!
Sands Seafood and Sports Bar
Louisiana bayou meets Maryland-style seafood on this Huber Heights menu, and the crab cakes come out hefty and perfectly crusted with no shortage of actual crab. The Swamp Water Catfish is the dish that keeps people talking long after they leave. A newer spot quickly becoming a neighborhood favorite.
📍6254 Chambersburg Rd, Huber Heights📍
Cafe Terra Mediterranean Cuisine
Greek and Turkish flavors meet on North Main Street, where everything from the kitchen to the dessert case is made in-house. All the food is halal and kosher friendly, and the flavors are as fresh as the near-perfect rating suggests. Regulars keep coming back for a reason.
📍8351 N Main St, Dayton📍
Singha Thai
The Massaman curry with tofu and the drunken noodles are the dishes people drive across town for at this bright, glass-fronted Kettering spot. It has quietly built one of the most devoted followings of any Thai restaurant in the Dayton area. A hidden gem worth the trip.
📍4123 W Town and Country Rd, Kettering📍

DAYTON DIGEST
🏗️ Montgomery County Puts $250K Toward a New Boys & Girls Club
The Montgomery County Board of County Commissioners approved a $250,000 grant to help build a new Life & Workforce Readiness Center for the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton. The funding contributes to the club's larger $18 million campaign for an approximately 37,000-square-foot facility. Once complete, the space will give local kids access to educational programming, career exploration, and life skills development. Commission President Carolyn Rice said the investment reflects a commitment to giving every Montgomery County child a place to feel safe, supported, and inspired.
🎒 Free Clothes, Games, and Raffles Await Huber Heights Families
This Saturday, Aug. 8, families in Huber Heights can head to Studebaker School for a Back to School Bash running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be games, raffles, and food for pre-k through high school students gearing up for the new year. The Master's Closet Community Outreach Center, located at Door 22, will offer free school clothing, something it has done for local families for more than thirteen years. The program got its start when one mother noticed a student wearing shorts in winter because he had no pants, and it's grown into a year-round resource ever since.
🏥 A New Walk-In Kids' Clinic Just Opened in Vandalia
Dayton Children's Hospital opened its newest Kids Express location in Vandalia this week, giving families in northern Montgomery County another spot for walk-in pediatric care. The clinic at 792 Northwoods Blvd. treats kids ages 6 weeks to 18 years for everything from ear infections to sports physicals. It's one of six Kids Express locations in the region and will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dr. Lisa Ziemnik with Dayton Children's said the goal is simple: making expert pediatric care easier to reach close to home.

Montgomery County Needs You: 17 Blood Drives Set for August
A critical blood shortage has hit Ohio and the Midwest, and Versiti Blood Center says local donations have dropped about 11 percent since Memorial Day. That gap left the center roughly 15,000 donation appointments short across June and July combined. Hospitals and emergency teams rely on close to 1,500 blood donations every day to care for trauma patients, cancer patients, and premature babies across the region. To help close the gap, Versiti is hosting 17 community blood drives across Montgomery County throughout August, with stops in Centerville, Oakwood, Kettering, and Beavercreek, among others.
